Check with Ulead about this program. Someone else posted this week about a

Not as much space as i 'seem' to be missing?

Question: Do you know if you have a hidden partition on that drive with

the
OEM recovery files?

Not that i know of?
BTW i am stuck with what command prompt to use in the filelist application
you suggested?

Place filelist and its DLL into the Windows folder. Open a command prompt
window (CMD.EXE) and try:

FILELIST C: list.csv

The resulting file will show up in Documents and Settings\your account

It can be imported to Excel or a similar program. Most database and
spreadsheet programs allow you to sort a column by numerical value.

Thanks but i had worked ot out eventually :-)
It shows a total of 2056321415.00 bytes.
Did you see the result i got with the EasyCleaner | Space Usage
http://ptm2.cc.utu.fi/ftp/windows/tools/EClea1_7.exe

That tells me that I have 84% free space?
I removed autoroute, that gave me an extra 1% disk space :-(

Sharon thank you for your input!
I have done all you suggested, the file hiberfil.sys.
does not show any where? BTW it is not a Laptop.
Reduced cache sizes, and removed all temp file contents-
rebooted, but defraganalyse still show the same disk
usage? the biggest in add/remove is AutoRoute V11.0 @
about 933,000MB but i need that, and all others in there,
i have the same things installed on my W98 machine.
Where to next?
Why are you not in Seattle? :-)

If it's not a laptop that needs battery life protected, you can easily do
without hibernation and the accompanying hiberfil.sys file. Hibernation may
already be disabled (or is not available) and that would explain why
there's no sign of the file after showing hidden and system protected files
and folder.

Hang onto AutoRoute, it's only a GB of space and you use it.

Other space grabbers: Do you have Norton's Protected Recycle Bin installed?
If yes, check that it's not stashing up deleted files. On an oddball chance
that there may be a few chkdsk files hanging around, search for *.chk
files.

Seattle travel plans canceled when I couldn't find a replacement dog sitter
for my elderly black lab. Thanks for asking :^)

-----Original Message-----
Phil,
Try this.
Go to Start, search, choose "all files and folders".
In the box labeled "all or part of the file name" type *
Click on "What size it it?"
Select "Specify size (in KB)"
In the first drop down, select" at least"
In the second drop down type 100000
Scroll down and select "more advanced options"
Check the box labeled "search hidden files and folders"
Now click the Search button.
After the search completes, go to view on the top

toolbar and select
"details", then arrange icons by size.
Look for the largest files and let us know what you find.

Select "more advanced options"

ABOVE SEARCH CRITERIA:
With protected sys files showing:
pagefile 786,432kb
EURART 125,000KB
EUR CD 626,896KB
Looks like a ghost :-))
BTW no Norton on here

If we try hard enough, I bet we could get the rest of that drive filled up
with more free programs for you to try

I hesitate to suggest running chkdsk. If there is a disk problem - physical
or just a sick file system - running this tool could make things worse. On
the other hand, it might straighten out the weird report of free space. If
you have your important data backed up, you may want to give that a try.

Also, might want to try hard drive diagnostic tools. These are available
from the hard drive manufacturers. They go on a floppy. Boot the machine
with the floppy disk and run the tests according to the directions.

working in this KB article-
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

where?? do i find the following. Options in which program please?
1.. Start Ntbackup.exe, click Options on the Tools menu, click the Backup
Log tab, and then click Detailed.
2.. Click the Backup tab, back up the entire volume that is affected (in
this example, drive D), and then start the backup procedure.

Using XP Pro? Should find Backup (NTBackup) under System Tools in the Start
menu. When you start NTBackup, you should see a menu bar along the top. One
of the available menus is Tools and Options is underneath that. If you get
this far, the rest falls into place.

Question: The procedure from this article says to create a full backup. You
can delete the backup later as the object is to get a complete file list
from the backup log file. Where are you going to store that backup set?
There is no compression with NTBackup (except, I think, maybe with tape
backup).

If you have XP Home, it is a separate installation - not included as a
Windows component. It is in the ValueAdd folder on the XP Home CD:

HOW TO: Install Backup from the CD-ROM in Windows XP Home Edition
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=302894

Suggestion:
May want to take a look at these two very small (and free) programs
TreeSize and FileList from:
http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/index.shtml

I think FileList will accomplish the same thing that the MS Knowledge Base
article is trying to do : create a filelist. Don't know if it can reach
beyond permissions as NTBackup though.

Treesize can help to show what files/folders are carrying the bulk of the
missing space.

Check with Ulead about this program. Someone else posted this week about a
problem with it... I think they were uninstalling and having some trouble
getting back disk space but can't recall exactly. Sorry my memory's hazy on
the details and sorry if it's a false lead.

Question: Do you know if you have a hidden partition on that drive with the
OEM recovery files?

Place filelist and its DLL into the Windows folder. Open a command prompt
window (CMD.EXE) and try:

FILELIST C: list.csv

The resulting file will show up in Documents and Settings\your account

It can be imported to Excel or a similar program. Most database and
spreadsheet programs allow you to sort a column by numerical value.
