Default Windows 10 Anniversary Update still being rolled out?

It's been a full calendar month since the roll out began. I have four
PCs with Win 10 installed, and still have not been offered the update
for any of them. I wonder how long MS thought it would take to get
around to everyone?

I haven't heard any news about recalling it. And I heard that Micro$oft
was preparing Redstone 2 for Win 10.

Hello,

Do not be too quick w/ the upgrading. I think the issue w/ logitech cam
type C930 has got no solution yet.

With kind regards,

You can download it here. I've had no issues on 3 laptops, 2 desktops,
a server and a tablet, and there are a couple of nice new features (e.g.
"Quick Assist").

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...update-history

While two of my computers updated from the above page, for my table with
32 MB of ram, I had to use the Media Creation tool

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

http://www.windowscentral.com/how-ge...iacreationtool

When I tried to update my 32 MB tablet directly I kept getting not
enough memory errors. Using the MediaCreationTool I was able to upgrade
the tablet, and after cleaning up afterwards I had the same free ram
that I had before the update.

I beleive the mediacreationtool creates the compacted operating system
that came on my tablet, while the standard upgrade does not.

If that's the case, why on earth haven't MS told everyone? Also, why,
when they were pushing out automatic updates, did they not offer that
option?

I asked several times in the Insider forum, and no-one suggested that,
but I hope you are right and someday I can ditch this dreadful W8.1 on
my tablet.

Did you register the windows 8.1 computer with Microsoft to get Windows
10? I updated my table to Windows 10 as soon as it came out. (I did
the same for my laptop but reverted and then several months ago I did
install Windows 10 on the laptop.)

After installing Windows 10 AE on the tablet and cleaning up, I had the
same space on disk of the tablet as before

My main computer has not been offered it yet, and I'm in no hurry.

I already have it on a test machine. I have seen no major problems
myself and it does have the new Unicode 9.0 emoji. But I have read
about problems with certain hardware, e.g. with webcams that use data
compression.

If you are in a hurry, see Philip Herlihy's reply for the download
link.

My Toshiba notebook (Win10 Pro) finally upgraded to version 1607. It took a
little more than an hour. I didn't see any error messages but I confess I
didn't stare at the screen for the whole process. Everything seems to work.
It did what new versions of Windows do: it reset many of my preferences and
personalizations. Took another hour for me to go through every option I
could find and set them back to what I want as opposed to what MS wants. I
also had to reinstall some software that MS deletes. The changes to the
Start Menu are annoying (also as usual for a new MS version).

So far it hasn't been a disastrous transition - just inconvenient and
annoying. I was actually hoping it would wreck the machine so I could be
done with Windows altogether. Guess I'll still be running Windows on that
computer for the foreseeable future.

This was long Labor Day weekend here in the colonies, so I decided to go
ahead and install the anniversary update...

All went well with the update to an HP 11 inch laptop. The next two are
Dell XPSs. For some reason the update didn't like the AMD Radeon video
drivers, and replaced them with a Microsoft Basic Display Driver signed
in 2006. That was very logical, huh? It made for a very crowded desktop
indeed! After I reinstalled the proper drivers, everything returned to
normal. Also cleared up some problems I'd been having with the
Notification Center. The final update was to a Dell Inspiron. No
problems there. Glad to have it all over with! -Walt
