copying text to a cd using XP
Am using Windows XP
Can anyone explain correct procedure to copy text, that I need to constantly edit, on to a c d. Each time I have tried it either will not do it or I get messages saying 'Read only'. I have tried to turn this off but it keeps returning. My c d jams or it will not just delete an item but then will not just do simple erase, so I have to do full format. I really need help with this one. Have only just joined Newsgroup and have already had one problem solved re copying photos so am very hopeful re copying text problem. Thank You -- fuzzy |

CD-R, which is the only form of CD burning supported by the
built-in XP software, is always read-only. Your choices are to create your text file (Notepad or WordPad, or if you have the applications such as WORD) and save it on the hard drive or invest in some third-party software (Roxio or Nero) that supports packet writing which is read/write and then the CD-RW disk will act like a floppy. You might also consider getting a flash memory thumb drive or a card reader, as these are faster than a CD and very reasonably priced now, -- The people think the Constitution protects their rights; But government sees it as an obstacle to be overcome. Thank You What you want to use are a) cd-rw - rewritable - disks; and b) third-party burning software that will do packet-writing. XP's built-in burning capability does not do packet-writing. You need packet writing software to do this. It will format a CD-R/W so it
behaves like a giant floppy. You can then edit an individual file, save directly from applications like MS Word etc and delete individual files on the disk. Popular stand alone programs are InCD from www.nero.com and DLA from http://www.sonic.com/products/dla/default.asp -- Harry Ohrn MS-MVP [Shell/User] www.webtree.ca/windowsxp "fuzzyhead" wrote in message ... copying text to a cd using XP
Thanks for your help.
We have CD-R/W in our setup and in Windows XP we have a Sonic package. We were told that we could do the copying through Sonic, which we tried, but we could not add or delete anything then from the CD. Is the purpose of Sonic then just to record music? Thanks Fuzzyhead "Harry Ohrn" wrote: You need packet writing software to do this. It will format a CD-R/W so it behaves like a giant floppy. The inbuilt burning is not a CD-RW method, and the disks produced are inherently read-only. If you want to be able to update the files on a CD-RW you need one of the 'packet writing' programs. And warning - constant updating will wear out a disk remarkably quickly.
