Default CD WRITING WIZARD PROBLEMS

Hi, I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows XP Professional 2002 version. I'm
need to restore it, have the recovery disc for it. I've been attemping to
save all my documents & such on a CD. When I try to write the files to the
CD, it won't let me. The CD Wizard goes thru "writing to CD", etc. but then
the Wizard stops & it says there's an error in the writing process & gives me
the opition of:
1. Ejecting & trying another disc 2. Deleting the files. 3. Saving the
file to try again later. I've tried 4 brand new CD discs & it still isn't
working. I was able to save 2 files on one CD & then the same problem.
Can anyone help me please? Thanks!!

Default CD WRITING WIZARD PROBLEMS

To ask the obvious.. have you cleaned the drive lately (or ever)?
Most major electronics retail outlets sell cleaner discs to wipe the
optical lens. Not as good as a manual clean, but usually sufficent.

Thanks Bill, no I haven't, I never even thought of it. Thanks, is it like a
cleaner disc one uses for VCR'S? What do I ask for at the electronics store?
Would Circuit City & those type of stores carry it?
Thanks Again.

You're welcome Jeanne.. Yes, Circuit City/Best Buy/RS/Etc. usually carry them.
Just ask for a "lens cleaner" for your CD drive. Run it a couple of times, and
if that doesn't solve the problem, post back.

What brand is it? IIRC, my Maxell goes from the instruction track 1, on
to the cleaner track 2 automatically. Is it spinning?

Hit the "Next" | button in MP (or Ctrl-F) until it's in track 4?

Hi Bill, mine is a Phillips & I opened it with MEDIA PLAYER. it goes thru
the speal to go to track 4. It'll go to tract 2 & still be spinning, to tract
3 & still be spinning but when it gets to tract 4 it stops. When you copy
files to Cd, do you do it with Media Player, Take No Action' or what. I'm
confused as which one to use, especially with pictures. Thanks again.

Default CD WRITING WIZARD PROBLEMS

Hi Jeanne, there's more than one way to burn files to CD, and it depends
on what software you have installed. With no third party software installed, you could
select the files in explorer and drag/drop the files to the CD drive (or do a "Send to [drive:]).
After you have "sent" or "dropped" the files you would access the drive and do
a "Write these files to CD". That's when the actual burning takes place. Up until
that point they are only cached.

What software are you using?

Default CD WRITING WIZARD PROBLEMS

Hi Bill I'm using Windows XP professional. When I want to save the files, i
right click the file & hit send to C drive. Then I go to the Cdrive & it says
"write these files", I hit that & it starts but then it stops & says to put
in a writeable CD, when in fact it is a writeble. I don't know how to use
Explorer, I don't use it as my browser. Thanks again for your help.

Default CD WRITING WIZARD PROBLEMS

Any error messages?

Does the drive read CDs ok? Can you copy files from the CD to the hard drive?
Does it work if you copy the whole CD to HD, or does it stall at some point? Do
music CDs play without problem? Are the CDs compatible with your recorder?

If reading discs is error free, you might want to try a different
brand media or try slowing the write speed down and see what happens. It's
also possible that the driver is causing some problems, and may need to
be reinstalled.
