As you say Joy now uses Windows 10 which I
suppose was inevitable so I'm glad I got the
780 with Windows 7 Professional.

However, couldn't I still buy a Dell from Joy
and erase(format) the HD and put a Mrimg copy
of my Windows 7 Professional on it?

Just curious,
Robert

Each OEM Refurbisher version of Windows 7 is likely
to have its own unique license key. If you ran two
machines at the same time with the same license key,
it might eventually report "not genuine".

However, if one 780 blew up, you bought a Win10 780
as a replacement, you might be able to successfully
transfer to the other machine. It might require
re-activating or something, using the COA license
key. I don't know the details for sure, because not
many people report their experiences with Refurb/OEM
machines. It's a bit of an unknown.

The reason for going from one 780 to another, is so
the drivers match, amongst other reasons.

A possible sequence would be:

1) Boot new 780 with old Win7 drive as the sole drive.

2) Open Administrator Command Prompt

slui 4

Use the license key 25 character string from the COA
sticker on the old computer. Follow the telephone activation
prompts.

3) slmgr.vbs /dlv

or

slmgr /dlv

can be used to discover the status is "Licensed". That's
a double check that all is well.

In step (1), the OS is likely to notice right away, that
the NIC MAC address has changed, and that should be enough
to make the license "Not genuine". Using slui 4 is an
attempt to fix that.

In rare cases, a computer will "freeze" right on the spot, on
a loss of activation, and doing step 2 simply isn't possible.

In other cases, you get a 3 day warning. "Fix the activation
in 72 hours or else" is the nature of the status. That gives
time for slui 4 or calls to microsoft or whatever.

Anyway, those are the kinds of commands I would try.

I would keep a copy of the Win7 disk drive, just in
case the re-activation does not go well and you need
to restore to that drive later.

If all else fails, there is Daz Loader (yarrh!).
