Turn off Restore
My luck abruptly ended when my XP Pro computer got infected with Trojan
Horses. Using Norton Internet Security I got rid of them or so it appeared. But it seems that the automatic Restore feature automatically copied viruses and revived them. Now I need to turn off Automatic Restore, but Restore tab (My computer/Properties) shows no option to turn it off. This is said to be the result from non-Administrator account. I installed XP with one user and no password (blank) so that I need no key strokes at booting. I have thought that the account I am using is still the administrator account with all previllages. If I am not administrator or if I am somehow no in administrator account, please show me how I can turn off the Restore feature. |

Turn off Restore
"Beyond X" wrote in message . com... Using Norton Internet Security I got rid of them or so it appeared. I highly doubt it. Now I need to turn off Automatic Restore, but Restore tab (My computer/Properties) shows no option to turn it off. This is said to be the result from non-Administrator account. System Restore tab doesn't show if you're logged on as a regular user. The fact that you can see and click System Restore tab says that you do have admin permissions. The malware infection must have crippled system restore. Your computer isn't 100% cleaned. I installed XP with one user By default, if there is only 1 user, the user becomes the Administrator (with administrative priveleges). I have thought that the account I am using is still the administrator account with all previllages. I'm sure the account has admin privileges. If I am not administrator or if I am somehow no in administrator account, please show me how I can turn off the Restore feature. You can try running malwarebytes to clean up the infection but if I were you, I'd nuke it and reinstall the OS. |

Download and install Malwarebytes Antimalware and SuperAntispyware and do full scans. Use SAS in Safe Mode and again in normal startup. |

Turn off Restore
Thank you to all for your thoughy and suggestions.
Since I "am" Administrator and yet do not see the turn-off option in the Restore tab, I conclude that the malware that infected my computer screwed up the system information. The only option appears to be to use an antimalware software more capable than Norton. Wish me a good luck! |
