Configuring Fax
I have a new HP Pavilion a420n computer running XP Home.
Starting yesterday, everytime I boot a series of boxes popup attempting to configure fax. It was pointing to a location that does not exist on my hard drive to find fax.msi. I can't find that file any where on my hard drive. I had a trial version of MS Office 2003 which I never installed. I also had a Fax icon in Printers which I never attempted to use. Today I deleted Office. That also deleted the fax iconin printers. I then went into Add/Remove Windows Components and attempted to remove Fax. It origionally had a checkmark against it but the "Details" button was grayed out. I removed the checkmark and there was a small amount of drive activity. The bootup problem still exists. Help will be greatly appreciated. Lyall Kingman |

Clarify please. You had a trial version of Office 2003 that you never
installed, but then you "deleted" Office. So you deleted a program you never installed? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Lyall Kingman" wrote in message ... I think, just assuming now, that Lyall meant he/she had the trial version
but never installed the full blown version of Office 03 or in other words paid for the licensed version and just deleted the trial version? "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote in message ... Victor D was correct. The Office files were on the hard drive but I never
ran the installation program so I deleted the Office folder and files. "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote in message ... Clarify please. Something doesn't fit here. Office 2003 is the only program I know of that
changes the file association of Fax files to msi, and that's the error message you're getting. You must have installed it at some time. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Lyall Kingman" wrote in message ... Victor D was correct.
