I would have thought you would choose "Custom", just to be safe. I think you missed the point of my reply to the OP. You might note that he said "True, you can get the toolbars deleted (but not a choice at install time)". I was simply pointing out that you do get a chance not to install the toolbar at install time and perhaps why and where he missed seeing that option. As for which install option to use, I think you suggested in an earlier post that he could use "Custom", but I assumed that the OP may have chosen "Express Install (recommended)" and so I chose that option in the hope that I could demonstrate where he did have the choice to not install the toolbar. The panel I uploaded to Tinypic highlights this. At this point, I abandoned the installation of AVG as I have a different antivirus program installed. The next panel is the Installer panel and I suspect that this is where you got caught by the Toolbar trick. In this panel there are 4 boxes that will accept a tick. The three at the bottom are empty and the one near the top has already been ticked. You should have removed this tick if you didn't want the toolbar installed (A mouse click on this box will do). Admittedly, this little box does not stand out like the other three. I have highlighted this at http://tinypic.com/r/311rr09/5 if you want see where it is in the Installer panel. As for the Free Trial of "Speed Up Your PC", perhaps you could have used Google to check what others say about that program. I have free AVG and, on the main screen, there's a tile labeled "Fix Performance". If I click it, it brings up PC Analyzer that offers to scan my computer for registry errors (I use CCleaner for that), junk files (ditto), broken shortcuts (if I have any, I'll find out as soon as I click on them!) and do a defragmentation (something I do NOT want to occur on my SSD)! |

"Fix Performance" is not a feature of AVG free. It's an ad for their paid product. The ad is built into their free product and cannot be uninstalled or deleted. Free AVG 2013 most certainly has the Fix Performance feature -- I use it regularily . It checks the registry for "errors", it checks the hard drive for "junk files", and it checks the degree of disk fragmentation. Then AVG "fixes" all that if appoval is granted. I have the installer and have also installed it on a new computer. |

My first reply is/was true for the version I'm using frequently on my old XP Pro machine. Today when I ran the same installer on a new Win 7 Pro machine the install "worked" allright - but with the update signatures I also got an "upgrade" of the software -- Interseting --- when I did an uninstall, with AVG's own uninstaller, everything visible disappeared . But, if I download something an AVG thing comes up to check it !!!! After AVG, presumably, is gone !! on the |
