My favorite browser has been Maxthon for some time, but it recently

So I decided to try Firefox again, which I haven't tried in a while.

So far, I like what I see, but I have a few questions:

Got it! Finally fixed the tabs on the side problem. I had an addon
called "Tree Style Tab" installed. I didn't remember installing it,
but I just tried disabling it and restarting Firefox and it
immediately fixed the problem. The tabs are now on the top.

That leaves me one major problem that I asked about earlier: When I
type a URL or click on a favorite, it opens the page in the current
tab, overriding the page that was already open. If I remember to hold
down the Ctrl key when I do that, it will open it in a new tab, but I
would like opening it in a new tab to be automatic. Is there a way to
make that happen, either within Firefox or using an addon?

I could have lived with tabs on the side, but I'm sure not that I can
live with Firefox unless I find a way to do this.

Try right-click on the bookmarked item.

Yes, thanks. I know I can do this, just as I know that I can hold down
the Ctrl key and left click. But what I'm looking for is a way to make
that the default when I simply left-click an item, or type a URL and
press enter.

3. There is a long list of addons. Any that are particularly

10. Tab Mix Plus - This will address your #1 & #2 above

Sorry, I missed your message and didn't see it until now. Number 2 has
already been fixed, as I said in a recent message. Number 1 is still
open, and although I have Tab Mix Plus installed, I can't find a way
for it to solve my problem. Can you be more specific as to what I
should do in it to solve the problem? Thanks.

Tools Tab Mix Plus Options, Links tab

(If you don't see the MenuBar by default, hit Alt first.)

OK, I'm at that page. What should I change there? From what to what?

I've gotten used to clicking the plus sign at the right end of the tab bar
to open a new tab. Then when I type a URL, it naturally opens in that new
tab. Not quite what you asked for, but the end result is about the same?

Not the same. He's clicking on a link, not typing a URL.

He can't live with it that way, but I can - and do :-)

"Force to open in new tab" maybe?

I could learn to live with it, but I don't want to. It's the exact
opposite of what I'm accustomed and the way I like it to work. If I
can't find a way for it work the way I want. I'll probably give up on
Firefox and go back to Maxthon.

Sure. I don't mean you should feel otherwise, only mentioning that I
feel different from you.

ISTM that I saw the setting in question and chose not to set it here, so
if I'm right, it's there somewhere. But it was a long time ago,and
supper is just happening, so I won't look for it ATM.

But maybe your add-on isn't what I have.

Nope. I had already tried that. Doesn't work.

I think that "links" refers to links on a web page, not URLs that I
type or Bookmarks that I click.

Understood. We're all different, work differently, and have different
likes and dislikes.

As a single example of what I mean, I tried Chrome and thought it was
by far the worst browser I had ever seen. Yet one of my closest
friends uses and loves it.

OK. But if you should run across it, please let me know.

But, but, but, I was replying to this part: "or type a URL" :-)

Alas, Ken has since posted in this thread and it appears that I've misread
it.

Personally, I would consider the browser to be broken if every click opened
in a new tab, so it's definitely a case of 'we're all different'.

Yep....maybe a new window, but not a tab.

That's OK, I know it can be hard to overlook the first reply to a post.

In the TMP options, Go to EVENTS-Tab Opening and put a checkmark next to
bookmarks. I also select history, address bar & search bar.

Great! That did what I wanted. Thanks very much. I'm a happy camper
now!
