Yep, we're all different.

Yes, thanks. I know I can do this, just as I know that I can hold down
the Ctrl key and left click. But what I'm looking for is a way to make
that the default when I simply left-click an item, or type a URL and
press enter.

I've gotten used to clicking the plus sign at the right end of the tab bar
to open a new tab. Then when I type a URL, it naturally opens in that new
tab. Not quite what you asked for, but the end result is about the same?

Not the same. He's clicking on a link, not typing a URL.

But, but, but, I was replying to this part: "or type a URL" :-)

Looks like I was confused...

Alas, Ken has since posted in this thread and it appears that I've misread
it.

He can't live with it that way, but I can - and do :-)

Personally, I would consider the browser to be broken if every click opened
in a new tab, so it's definitely a case of 'we're all different'.

Which is why it's nice that there are options.

Of course too many options means too much confusion. Can't win 'em all
:-)
