Default Windows Xp SP3 Trashed my PC. I have a legit copy of windows - why

Having put it off finally autoinstalled SP 3 and now will only run in safe
mode, won't do a system restore and my PC is largely unusable. I don't
understand how to roll this back.
1. Have tried system restore to previous timeperiod - no dice.
2. I have tried add/remove programs - won't let me says not possible.
3. What do i do now???????????????????????

you likely have to review how
many resources does you computer
have.

for example, do you have at least
512 megs of ram/memory installed?

do you have at least 40gigabytes of
hard disk space/drive installed?

is your computer from a manufacturer
that provides proprietary device drivers
to run your hardware?

Continual reboots or can only boot into Safe Mode after installing WinXP
SP3?

See
http://msinfluentials.com/blogs/jesp...ng-xp-sp3.aspx
[NB: The above has been updated many times and now includes "a small tool
that will detect the IntelPPM problem and mitigate it before installing
(WinXP SP3)."]

Possible workaround: Boot into Safe Mode and rename INTELPMM.SYS to
INTELPMM.OLD.

Other references include:

• Error message after you upgrade a computer that uses a processor other
than an Intel processor to Windows XP Service Pack 2 or to Windows XP
Service Pack 3: "STOP: 0x0000007E":

• HP and Compaq Desktop PCs: Computer Restarts after Displaying Stop Error
0x0000007E [after installing WinXP SP3]

• Microsoft Windows XP SP3 Upgrade Utility for systems with AMD processors:
Go to www.hp.com | Search for "sp37394.exe" (w/out quotes) | Should take you
to this download page:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...reg_R1002_USEN

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support for WinXP SP3 was
available from 14 April 2008 thru May 2009. Such support will cost you
US$59 per incident now. [You snooze, you lose.]
