Windows Mail
I bought a new W10 laptop last week - my previous one ran Vista. My
problem is that there appears to be a fault with Windows Mail as the program is not listed and, although I can locate the program folder and exe file, it will not run other than simply opening at the contacts page with no way of accessing any other part of the program. Is there any way I can obtain another copy of Windows Mail? --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus |

Is there any way I can obtain another copy of Windows Mail? The built-in Mail in Win10, is an App. It is downloaded from the Windows Store. It is re-downloaded when major upgrades like Creator happen. The frequent downloading helps ensure an unblemished application (even if it was the same version). There is a recipe here, for its removal. Followed by, visiting the Store and reinstalling it. The People App is for the Address Book. The Mail and Calendar (according to this), are part of the same package. http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-re...in-windows-10/ If you've never used Powershell before, it has one little ceremony the first time. Get-ExecutionPolicy (returns Restricted) Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted (RemoteSigned, AllSigned, Restricted) You can set the kinds of stuff you want to allow the environment to run. If you write your own, you might need to loosen up the policy. The above "intowindows recipe" will probably work without help. And I'm mentioning this, so you have some idea what it's all about. I just tried visiting the Store without an MSA, and it actually let me visit. I think I had a problem with the Store, the last time I tried it. So who knows, maybe the above will actually work without a fuss ? :-) Note that, there are a couple Apps you're not allowed to remove. If you were thinking of going nuclear, there are limits. Good luck, Paul |

I could be wrong. Consider instead using web mail or a professional open source eMail app such as Thunderbird. With web mail you are not stuck with a particular operating system. With Thunderbird, you can migrate across various operating systems, including non-M$ systems and back and forth. -T |

People have kicked that one around before. https://www.eightforums.com/browsers...ndows-8-a.html And if you look around, you can probably find similar activity on tenforums.com . The fun part, is finding out which version makes the most sense to move forward. Would the Vista one run ? Dunno. I don't see any mention of blocking (yet), so maybe all it requires is the right folder structure, and set of files. https://www.tenforums.com/browsers-e...-win-10-a.html https://www.tenforums.com/browsers-e...live-mail.html Paul |

I did not realise it was an app, I do not use any apps and have deleted nearly all (which must have included the Mail app). I have successfully migrated to Thunderbird although I still much prefer the clean look of the Vista Windows Mail. There are no end to the things you can configure on Thunderbird. There is a great newsgroup that can be very helpful over at mozilla.support.thunderbird If you describe what look you want to them, they can help you get there, or at least close. -T |
