WIndow 10 Creator Edition Lock ups
Since updating to Creator, I am experiencing system lock ups. They
range form mild when the mouse works with in the window, and not on the header menu of the window. Example When I am playing a Windows 7 game, like solitaire, I get response when I click the tiles, but there is no response when I click the menu to play a new game. This situation can be corrected by clicking the taskbar. When playing games I always turn off the wireless connection Then every thing works normal The other situation is more dramatic. When working in something like the 64bit Firefox with a couple of open tabs, the system freezes completely, no response from the mouse of from the touch pad. When this happens you have to hold the power button down to do a hard shut down of the computer. I have noticed there seems to be a lot of activity in a program call Windows audio Device graph isolation. I am not sure if it is active when the crash occurs with Firefox. Windows 10 Creator 15063.138 HP laptop HP 15-ay068nr Intel core 8GB ram 1 TB disk. -- 2017: The year we lean to play the great game of Euchre |

I gather this is like ShadowPlay. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html ******* And the "graph isolation", is a new home for proprietary audio DSP drivers. If your audio chip manufacturer wants to add a "concert hall echo effect" to the sound path, a separate process implements the feature. If the audio driver destabilizes the system, just that process is affected. Seems a bit balmy, after all these years of "having to make it work" :-) https://www.howtogeek.com/273764/wha...ning-on-my-pc/ Paul |

Windows 10 Creator 15063.138 HP laptop HP 15-ay068nr Intel core 8GB ram 1 TB disk. I ran a test case. Firefox 53.0 Win10 15063.xxx (patched up to this morning, might be same as yours) Sound test: https://archive.org/details/HouseOfT...LaurenOConnell First I used the default (Microsoft) audio driver on my RealTek motherboard ALC892 audio (Stereo output). The Audiodg.exe measured 0.1% CPU while the music played. Then I downloaded the 217MB RealTek driver (x64 version near the top). I put on the Firefox track again. I turned on sound effects ("Concert Hall") as well as the Equalizer ("Pop" mode). Audiodg.exe still remains at 0.1%. When audio stops, audiodg drops to 0.0%. No other process (like RealTek branded ones) mis-behaved either. Seems to work pretty good here. My video card is HD6450 from ATI, a $40 card or so. I expect graphical acceleration is enabled in Firefox, as the card has a handful of shaders on it. And enough RAM that compositing would not be a problem (compositing typically needs 128MB, card has 1GB onboard). You'll have to think a bit, about any customizations that distinguish your setup. Anything out of the ordinary ? Did previous OS versions kick up a stink ? I think my OS started at 10240, and has been upgraded through all the intervening OS versions. Paul |
