New tabs in Firefox open to MSN.com on W8
This is extremely annoying. All new tabs in MozillaFirefox open to MSN.com
page which is nothing but a SPAM and News page I can't get rid of, with BING as the search engine which I don't use. The customize option doesn't work of course as I unchecked everything on it but the MSN page ignores that. There is no setting in Mozilla to stop this MSN invasion when new tabs are opened. How are you guys stopping this annoyance? BTW, the old Vista Laptop is finished so now I'll be working on the W8 LT. |

Instead of the new tab being blank, MSN it there. This isn't happening on this old Vista. The General tab in Options has nothing about changing what's on the tabs you open, just the HomePage tab. |

I don't see that anywhere on the MSN spam page. The gear doesn't give those choices. The choice the gear gives are Feedback, Help, Customize this page, Switch to Latino. None have anything to do with stopping the MSN spam page each time I open a new tab. Even the Help is worthless. There is no Enhanced, Classic, or Blank on the MS page. Choose Menu | Options | Search or click the hourglass in the Search Box and choose Change Search Settings to whatever you want. Where is Menu/Options/Search located in MozillaFF? I'm using it for years and never saw anything like that or a search box w/an hourglass. |

But as I open more TABS, as I work onlline, each and every tab is nothng but the MSN spam page. I have to highlight the MS address in the address bar and elete it to type in what I want. It's irritating since I have zero interest in what MS is selling and it constant. The MSN spam page will fill 10 tabs if I open 10 tabs - every single tab is directed to the MS spam page. Every tab is nothing but the MSN page. I hope I made myself clear this time. I don't know how else to explain it or make it any clearer. http://tinypic.com/m/iw179i/4 |

Did you perhaps, execute one of these by accident ? http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=43713 Check your machine for "defaultpack.exe". While it's fun to think editing the Firefox preferences is going to help, I'd be looking for a Plugin, which can just put stuff back if it wants. Doing a Firefox "refresh" from About : Troubleshooting might work. It all depends on whether the defaultpack.exe has set itself up to run every time the computer boots. Which is a distinct possibility. In another era, we would call such things "malware". ******* Another possibility, is Mozilla forms partnerships with external companies. The deal with Google is done. So no more Google promotion. The latest deal is with Yahoo as far as I know, rather than with Microsoft. If both Bing and MSN show up, that would smell more like a defaultpack attack. Browsers also have "search providers" but that's not supposed to include page spamming. That should consist of a search bar somewhere. Paul |

Make sure "Always Check if Firefox is your default browser" is checked Change When :Firefox starts: To blank page. and remove any URL i the box "Home Page" You would get better anwers to your problems if you would go to the newsgroups at: news.mozilla.org You can also change your default search engine from Bing to your favorite. and subscribe to: Mozilla.support.firefox. This is an active newsgroup that provide support for firefox. You can asked basic question like your or questions about the many firefox addons to customize Firefox so that it does what you want. Open one or two TABS, then go near the right top of one of the newly opened pages, with the MSN crap and you should see a GEAR icon. That is what Nil is referring to. Works fine on my system now that I know what Nil was looking at. You will not see the Firefox gear Nil is referring to in the main window, only in a window that has been opened with the plus sign next to the main window's tab. |
