Default Okay, just installed Creator's Update

Okay, just installed Creator's Update, and though it looks more or less
the same, one thing different is that the Desktop Gadgets are no longer
working. I had installed a program called "Windows Desktop Gadgets" on
the machine under Anniversary Update, which brought back all of my
Windows 7 desktop gadgets. But now that's not working at all. I still
see the option for Gadgets when I right-click the desktop, but selecting
it does nothing.

One of the jokes is that Windows 10 Creator was suppose to be improved
so it handled games better, the improvements removed my Windows 7
games. Mahjong solitaire etc.

I found those gadgets nice and loved them both in 7 and with 3rd party
item they worked in 8/10 too. But more trouble to keep them working as
MS always kills them. So I moved to rainmeter https://www.rainmeter.net/
I got a clock and weather app plus a drive space indicator.
Not sure what you're using but I got off gadgets.

Yep Yousuf Kahn, it took the software guru's about 3 days to come out
with new versions of the installers for those W7 Games to continue
running on the Anniversary edition.

On my W10 machines they continue working after upgrading to the Creators
version. It kind of depends on which version of the "fixed" W7 games
you are running.

On mine it broke my scanner. Canoscan 4200F. Worked is 7, broke in 10
RTM, fixed in AU, and now broken again in CU. The MS giveth, and the MS
taketh away...

Yeah, looks like I'm going to have to do that soon too, but my stuff is
harder to find.

One gadget was an interface for my CoreTemp CPU temperature & speed
monitoring system. Another one was an interface to my HD Sentinel disk
health and performance monitoring system. There was a network monitoring
speed monitoring gadget too, and there was also a GPU temperature and
speed monitoring gadget. All kind of useful and technical. No weather or
clock type things here.

I suppose the enterprise version is updated last, in case
there is a glaring bug they want to fix before upsetting
their business customers.

I'd move it over to one of my Ubuntu systems except Canon is one of
those companies that gives the big ol' single-finger-salute to Linux.
Time to look at an Epson...

If it's a USB scanner, you can run VirtualBox (which has USB passthru
via VID:PID) and run an older Windows OS in there and do your
scanning.

All you need, is enough RAM on the host OS. Say, 1GB for the guest, plus
1GB for the host (whatever the host happens to be).

You don't even have to activate the guest OS. It'll run for at least 30 days.
I have at least one VM here, which runs in "reboot mode" (because it's an
Enterprise edition), and you can use that forever, as long as a session
doesn't last longer than half an hour or so. It's possible I got
that VM from modern.ie back in the day.

*******

And don't give up. I'm just amazed at how many of the scanner problems
end up solved, and how clever some people have been at solving them.

Are you sure the OS isn't offering a driver ?

I have 16GB so I am okay.

In fact I have VB and of my several VMs one is a legit copy of XP. I
have some self-made software that I used for my business that I have
never bothered to revise and upgrade for 64-bit that I run in it. Man, I
have to get back to porting that program... Anyway, yep it works but
still a PITA.

The problem is for this scanner there is no WAI only TWAIN, and
apparently with 1703 the WAI to TWAIN bridge is gone. BTW, 1604 wasn't
A1-skippy either because the TWAIN didn't work with my Corel Photo-PAINT
I had to do my scanning in Irfanview, but with 1703 does not show in
selecting TWAIN sources. Yet it does show in settings Printers &
scanners... and Manage button works. Just cannot access it from any
programs.

Are you sure the OS isn't offering a driver ?

Got the driver, just not access. I can use the dedicated buttons on the
scanner, but not from any applications.
