do I need these ISO's kicking around still?
Hi All,
I just installed Win10_1703_English_x64_Creators_Edition.iso. I did a hard drive wipe and reinstall. Seems to be working okay. Well, for Windows 10 that is. And I am thinking of doing a little house cleaning. Do I need these ISO's kicking around still? Win10_1511_2_English_x64.iso Win10_1511_English_x64.iso Win10_1607_English_x64.iso -T |

I hold my breath whenever I get to a customer site with Windows 10. Maybe in two years things will settle down. |

It doesn't cost much or take up much space to burn them to a DVD and store them. There have been times when I wanted an older version of some software but couldn't find it available anywhere. In the same way when I get an online upgrade of some installed software I keep the last three versions available. Has come in handy some times. |

You can set up a separate VM for each of your clients configurations, then backup the entire VM setup and virtual disk. If you don't have enough disk space, make a couple of copies so you have a backup. Then when a client upgrades, you can upgrade your copy and keep the current backup copy as an archive and do the backups all over again. I've go a couple of Western Digital portable drives I use for backup. If I was running your setup, I would image the entire virtual machine onto a portable drive. That way you could take it along to your customer site and make sure you and they were identical, and use files/data from your copy to fix their's if needed. Depending on how big your customer(s) is/are and how critical their systems are, I would keep a copy of the image file in an off-site backup site located at least 25 miles away. If you or your customers are in a hurricane prone area I would make that backup site at least a hundred miles inland - remember Katrina and Sandy. |

It would be worth keeping them, just to test that :-) Only two releases at a time receive Windows Update. Which at the moment would be 14393 and 15063. 1607 and 1704 or whatever. I have a machine at 10586 and I hope to test that. Whenever my curiosity gets the better of me. Paul |

I sometimes give advice over the phone and booting to the OS the person is actually using helps. The only installation of Win8 I have is virtual. At one time I had Win10 Tech Preview in a virtual machine but the performance was quite bad. Today I decided I wanted a " bare metal" machine in my shop so upgraded a Win7 machine and when the upgrade was complete Win10 was already activated. It seems their free upgrade offer did not in actuality expire yet. |
