Default Notifications - what are they for?

Has anybody ever found the notifications thing next to the clock to be of any use? All I get is adverts for stuff M$ is trying to sell, unimportant notifications, and at the moment I apparently have one thing to read, but when I click it it says "no notifications".

I have all but system notification turned off, so I get very few actual
notifications. When I installed Windows 10, one of the first things I
did was turn off everything, that had no business on my computer.

I use the Notification icon for communication icons, and WIFI,
Network, Bluetooth, Settings, etc.

What gets me is when the notification pops up and then disappears
before I can finish reading it.

You can change the time constant. That's about
all I could find as a solution.

You must be a very slow reader. The pop-ups contain very short messages
so why do you need 5 minutes to read them?

Because:

1. My vision is not usually fixed on that corner of the screen.

2. I have to react to the appearance of a pop-up at the corner of my
vision. That takes a short but finite time.

3. I don't get 5 minutes to read them. It's nearer to 3 seconds
including the reaction time.

I find they go away without me finishing with them. If I'm in the middle of something, I leave one there expecting it to stay until I interact with it, but it runs away. Or I click on it to do something, but then can't click it a second time if I want to do more. They should stay until I click the X. Very badly thought out design, typical of Microsoft.

How would it know you're reading it and not a different one?

Hmmm, a bit vague in there - like "get notifications from apps and other senders". I guess I just turn everything off.

Ok, that fails, if I go back in it's still turned on!

Rather disconcerting that there's no "ok" button, I assume it's meant to save when I close the dialog? Well it doesn't.

You don't, because these pop-ups can be expanded and read in almost
full screen and you can as long as you want to read them!! See this

You get as long as you want. I managed to take a screenshot as shown
above so clearly there is enough time. Take 30 minutes, NO Problems
with them. That pop-up is still visible while I am still writing this
post. there is X box to close.

Why are they still putting up that message? Only windows 98 was stupid enough to forget to write all the data to the USB device. I just pull them out nowadays.
