Nope - not unless you ALSO have a firewall in place. Otherwise you're
putting a band-aid on a subdural hematoma.


I agree. The firewall should be the first thing in place, followed by
examination on your need for the Messenger service. If you don't need
it, disable it.

In computer security, the only time there are "no worries", is when
the machine is turned off and unhooked from the net.

Messenger pop-ups like litmus tests. Unfortunately litmus test is not in the
elementary or secondary education in North America. It is humorous, how many
unable to understand the difference between a phenomena like Messenger
pop-ups and the underlying cause that is security vulnerability :-)
