Default Recordable CD drive not detected

I am using Movie Maker 2. When output the finished movie
to a CD, the program says no recordable CD drive is
detected. In fact, I have both CD writer and DVD writer
on my system. Can someone tell me how to configure CD
writer attached and if Movie Maker supports DVD output.

Thanks,

Ray

What does Device Manager say about the drives...any errors?

Bobby,

No error at all. Actually, they are operating correctly from day one and I
can use them on other software but Movie Maker. Any further?

Hi Ray,

You might want to confirm that the CD writer is enabled for recording.

Here's how:
1. Open Windows Explorer. Navigate to your CD-RW Drive.
2. Right-click on the CD-RW drive, and choose "Properties"
3. In the "properties" dialog, choose the "Recording" tab
4. On the "recording" tab, make sure that "Enable CD recording on this
drive" checkbox is checked.

Also, there's a known issue listed in the MM2.0 release notes about HP
drives and DLA software..You might want to check and see if it pertains to
your hardware.

Hope this Helps!

Forrnium,

Thanks for your advice. Following your advice, I enable the CD-RW drive.
It results in hanging when I select Save to CD under Finish Movie - No any
error message. I am using GCE-8150B CD-RW drive and B's Clip + Recorder
Gold writing software on Sony computer. As I am not using Windows writing
software, should I enable recording as per your procedure?

Norma,

No, I am using GCE-8150B CD-RW drive and B's Clip + Recorder Gold writing
software on Sony computer. As I am not using Windows writing software, I
believe Roxio, should I enable recording option.

I found a site that talks a bit about B's softwa
http://www.bhacorp.com/support/faq_clipwin/index.html

In their FAQ, they do say that if you enable recording on the drive in XP,
then the B's program won't work. So if you plan on using B's as your burning
app, go back and disable the recoding checkbox.

Conversely, I know the drive needs to be enabled for it to be usable by
MM2.0 -- MM2.0 uses the same CD writing services as the XP shell does.

Ack.

If you have the reason why Roxio stops the CDRW being unavailable in XP
I would be interested as I running ECDC Platinum 5 and I cannot get a
recording tab available, even if I uninstall ECDC. I want to be able to
use MM2 at times but also use ECDC.
Is this possible?
Thanks

Rosie;

This is a known issue with the de-installation of EZCD Creator.

Here is the fix:

Uninstall Ezcd Creator...

This tweak will
restore the missing drives after a reboot.
[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class
Key Name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Value Data: [Delete All Value Data from UpperFilters and
LowerFilters]
Note: Do not delete the Key or the Multi-String Values.
Delete only the data values.
Exit Registry and Reboot

Note you can save the registry key first by:
On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save.
Or create a system restore point prior to editing.

Edit the Registry at your own risk.

After reboot, your choice to reinstall EZCD or not.

Many thanks Bobby, I might try it later. Trouble is, it looks like a lot
of hassle just to use MM2 as a reinstall of Roxio is a pain! If I didn't
get jerky capture from VHS all the time I would probably do it and use
Nero instead.
So, if I get recording tab back what option to record to CD do I get,
like wmv, avi etc.?

Rosie,

If you are getting jerky video, try loading windows with just the bare
minimum of things running. Startrunmsconfig will bring up a box where you
can select what loads when windows boots. If you have any questions about
how to use it, post back...

Hi Bobby. Did that, still get jerky capture. I think I'll give up on MM2
as I've spent so many hours pratting around with it. The small file size
is the only thing in its favour for me. I've now got Edit Studio which
looks like it will do the job.
Thanks for your interest!
