Default windows cannot update roaming profile

We have a Windows NT4 domain with some NT boxes and some
XP boxes. When a user logs off from an XP box they get an
error saying that "Windows cannot copy
file...userclass.dat.log". Then another box pops up that
says "Windows cannot update roaming profile...". The user
loses all their settings. We checked the permissions on
the file and it seems ok. Does anyone have any
suggestions? Thank you.

You want a roaming profile with just two machines on the network p2p?
giggle Try to do it more easily - think along the lines of shared
folders... permissions... shorcuts... same usename & password... pop3 - do
not delete from server unless removed from deleted items folder.

Interesting, I may well have to eat my hat!
Does that work (as the OP required) with XP Pro and Home? The article states
Pro only.
If it does work not only do I stand corrected, but I will use it!

Default Roaming Profile

Roaming profiles can only be created if you're using a Windows 2000 Server
set up as an Active Directory domain controller.

You can't logon to the domain controller using a roaming profile. You can
log on to your winXP pro using a roaming profile if you join your XP pro
comp to the domain. You can't do it from your winXP home, because you can't
connect to a domain controller with the home version.

This means if you want roaming profiles then you have to buy a new computer
and istall win2k server on it and set it up as a domain controller. This is
both expensive and not trivial. You also need to upgrade your winXP home OS
to the pro version.

One thing you can do is copy over your profile from time to time. If you
use one computer alot more than the other you can copy over your profile to
the other computer when you need to use that computer.

You have to be logged in with admin priveleges and not under the profile
that you want to copy. Also on the receiving comp you have to be logged out
of the profile that the profile is being copied to.

Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Advanced-User
Profiles-Settings-Copy to

make sure you have the same username and password on both computers for that
profile.

This should work. You might to test in a test user first though.
