Default Lost APP folder

My app folder for Thunderbird disappeared. I transfer the tbird data to
laptop when traveling. It should be in Users\Bob\app\thunderbird. The
APP folder is gone, yet tbird is working on desktop computer. A search
didn't provide the answer.
Any suggestions?

Does "transfer" mean moved or copied?

I don't use Thunderbird. Its newsgroup is mozilla.support.thunderbird.
Are you sure that \Users\Bob\App is under where is thunderbird's profile
folder instead of under %appdata%?

I copy the folder with all email. Been doing it for years. I think
this is a Win10 problem. Tbird works fine. The message folder in
user\apps\thunderbird is gone. In fact, User\apps is gone.

There is something wrong, unless you have changed the location of the
profile.

First from Thunderbird, Help, Troubleshooting, locate the folder that
Thunderbird is using. Do this with both computers. Copy the the
contents of the profile folder from the computer that has the
information you want to the the profile folder on the new computer which
you found above.

One comment. Unless you are copying

C:\Users\userid\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird

You must transfer both the folder Profile and the file Profile.ini for
the Thunderbird installation to find the correct profile.

Windows 10 Currently Thunderbird 52.0 but has been the same since
before version 45.X

Nothing gets lost from the computer unless the there was some problem
between the Chair and the Computer. Did you make the main folders
readable i.e. you need to unhide the folders as the APP folder is hidden
by default. Do we need to teach you how to make folders readable?
Please ask us if this your problem.

The TB folders are at this link:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Pro files\vj5ufwvq.default

You need to replace USERNAME with your Windows profile name;
You also need to replace the characters after profiles to match your
own. TB creates random profile names so I can't help you here on this.
In my link it is shown as " *vj5ufwvq.default* "

I hope you won't start blaming Microsoft or Windows 10 when you haven't
tried any of the tried and tested methods to get to your folders.

Appdata is a hidden folder.

In File Explorer, there is a View Menu where you can specify

show file extension
show system files
show hidden files

and also a button which makes it "apply to all folders".

Using that, you can "improve the visibility of your stuff",
as you see fit.

*******

This picture shows an example from Vista. It shows the contents of
the View tab. It shows the "Apply To Folders" button, which is grayed
out. You can click "Apply" at the bottom, then click "Apply To Folders",
so that all folders inherit these viewing properties.

Now, this picture on the other hand, compares WinXP to Win10.
They keep moving the access to that dialog, but it remains much
the same as before. In Win10, you need the Ribbon to be visible,
so you can get to Options. This will help you find it.
(While the Vista example, shows the View tab contents.)

The reason that picture isn't perfect, is because I didn't
click the View tab like in the first picture, to show
the whole list of settings. I have three settings I use
in there regularly - show extensions, show hidden folders,
and I like to view system files (even desktop.ini) as well.
I want it to all hang out :-)

*******

OK, with that jazz out of the way, let's talk Thunderbird.

In the Thunderbird preferences itself, is a pointer to the
currently used profile folder. Which is nice, but it doesn't
tell you where profiles.ini is located.

The thing is, you're looking in the right place, but you need
to adjust the settings as shown above, so your Appdata will be
visible.

When you install Thunderbird, a single profile folder is
created, with a random name (abcd1234 in the example). The
profiles.ini file contains information, that links Thunderbird
to the location of the actual profile. The profiles.ini file
should not move, but you're free to store the actual profile
just about anywhere. The Profiles folder can be empty if you
like.

C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\profiles.ini
Profiles
abcd1234.default

*******

This is the contents of my profiles.ini . I have edited it.
I changed "IsRelative" to zero, indicating the path I am
about to give, is an absolute path. I specify the drive letter
and everything.

[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=0
Path=C:\Users\User Name\Downloads\abcd1234.default

And it's in my downloads folder, because I actually copied it
from another machine. So it no longer refers to the
Profiles folder, at all.

What you cannot afford to lose, is the profiles.ini.

The path string "C:\Users\User Name\Downloads\abcd1234.default"
is what shows in the Accounts information dialog in Thunderbird.
So if you edited the profiles.ini, this just confirms where the
data is stored. But, Thunderbird does not provide a pointer
to profiles.ini, so you can open it with Notepad. You have to
find it manually, somehow. And the first step to a useful
computer, is editing the View options. You cannot operate
a computer by "feeling around in the dark".

That FIXED it!! Somehow the AppData folder became hidden. I hadn't
touched that setting ever. I can only guess that a recent Windows
update changed it.
Thanks for all of the responses.
