For a while here, Windows Update had Windows 10 listed as an optional update AND automatically check-marked. Yep, that was a bug which was later fixed, according to MS. "Upgrade to 10" was an optional update BUT it was automatically check-marked. If I had left Windows updates on automatic instead of "let me choose", I would also have been upgraded without requesting. It would have requesed confirmation before starting install, anyway. Please note all that (W10 was just an *optional* update, but a "bug" auto-selected it) happened in year 2015. 2016 is a completely different kettle of fish: W10 becomes a "recommended" update. Even so, you'll be "prompted to choose whether or not continue", says MS. https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexp...to-windows-10/ "...Early next year, we expect to be re-categorizing Windows 10 as a Recommended Update. Depending upon your Windows Update settings, this may cause the upgrade process to automatically initiate on your device. Before the upgrade changes the OS of your device, you will be clearly prompted to choose whether or not to continue. And of course, if you choose to upgrade (our recommendation!), then you will have 31 days to roll back to your previous Windows version if you dont love it..." |

Is there any way to revert back to 7 after the 30 days expires without wiping and reinstalling? Many thanks, -T Jesus, doesn't anyone make backups any more ? :-) Paul Did the majority ever ? The way windows comes on the new PC, many people have no place to put a backup, even if they wanted to. Takes some planning and a modification of the partitions to make backups quick and easy without buying external drives. On the other hand, the "Shrink volume" feature in Windows Disk Management seems to work pretty well, and that should give you some room to create a new partition for data and backups. |

Before starting anything, I would write down a list of the installed apps (Belarc Advisor and CCleaner - Tools can assist you) and save whatever information might be useful for later reinstallation (license info, settings, databases...). Sometimes you can speed things up by saving your settings to an online account. For instance in Chrome logging to your account restores your browser settings and add-ons, if you linked your Chrome settings to a Google account. |

In FF, a FF account would sync your add-ons and settings, so you'll find them when you install FF again on the same PC or even another device. "Synchronize your bookmarks, history, tabs, passwords, add-ons, and preferences across all your devices." I don't use the sync feature, and I don't store passwords in my Firefox. I have used about:config to auto-export my bookmarks to a HTML file (the old way). https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/929746 Anyway, I agree it's quite time-consuming to reinstall Window$ and all needed programs. But it's worth the time to do it annually, as a way to guarantee a clean system. -- @~@ Remain silent. Nothing from soldiers and magicians is real! / v \ Simplicity is Beauty! Takes some planning and a modification of the partitions to make backups quick and easy without buying external drives. Anyone who backs up to an internal drive is playing with fire. The only good ways to back up are to external devices or to the "cloud." Backup to anything else leaves you susceptible to simultaneous loss of the original and backup to many of the most common dangers: severe power glitches, nearby lightning strikes, virus attacks, even theft of the computer. |
