SP2 what a bunch of @#$!!!

I, too, am having problems with needing to refresh at least twice (zero was the norm before) to see updated pages on a Website that I maintain using FrontPage on a Microsoft bCentral host account. I do not know if this is an issue on other sites since this is the only one I maintain (www.texaschess.org). Is it possible the fact this URL is being redirected by NameSecure to the 'real' site part of the issue? Any ideas what may be causing this would be greatly appreciated please. Best regards, George |

SP2 what a bunch of @#$!!!
My installation of SP2 was smooth and efficient. The only problem that I had
was that a program of mine which previously worked fine no longer ran. (I encounted the same problem, with the same program, when trying to run it on Longhorn). Other than that I was completly satisfied, I'm currently using Server 2K3 on my desktop (for development reasons) and am sorly missing the new version of Internet Explorer. Any ideas if it'll be available for other MS OS's? Steve, I don't disagree that different people have differing experiances with the same software. I Have enough trouble trying to satisfy clients with my software. I feel that you may have been placing too emphasis on your anger than the real issue. I then switched the firewall OFF and it STILL "silently" firewalled my computer WITHOUT my concent!!!!!THEN! on top of ALL of this, INTERNET EXPLORER started misbehaving. SP2 what a bunch of @#$!!!
I installed SP2 early this september and have no problems... I am running XP
pro on an compaq presarion laptop amd athlon 1800. I run Visual Studio.NET and SQLServer 2000 amoung other things and have not had any issues at all... (knock on wood) "memawof4" wrote: I am not a techie and as my sign in says I am a memaw of 4. I recieved SP2 through the AU and I did not get any message that said "read before committing suicide" I had alot of problems but thank God my son is a techie and helped me through them. He said he would not download SP2 untill they have worked the bugs out. I disabled the firewall and messenger and tweaked some things and solved me email delimma and now we are working fine ( my fingers are crossed) Point here is I agree with Alias. Not all of us want to spend our time "fixing" problems. MS should have sent instructions to us "dummies" before just sending SP2 through the update! We can not all be as smart as some of you claim to be. FWIW, Len -snip- Len, Thanks for checking. However, since you didn't have prior pages already, there isn't any way you could know (right?) if there is a problem with seeing updating pages (sorry if I was unclear). The issue is after I update page, I see the old page in IE unless I refresh the page a couple times. I just upgraded to SP2 at home, and don't see the problem. Maybe this has something to do with the corporate firewall instead, but I have not seen it prior to installing SP2. Could be a coincidence of course. Best regards, George |

The fact that you are using the MSDN Newsgroups instead of the public ones
suggests (to me anyway) that you (and others involved in this thread) are regular MSDN visitors and probably developers at some level. If this is so then you have no excuse for not knowing the potential issues with SP2, since Microsoft and other independent contributors have been publishing articles about it on the site for months. If it is not so, why are you cluttering up this invaluable resource for developers with complaints that don't belong here. Here here JRB.
This is correct. I'm a .NET developer and have had no problems with SP2, following the instructions given. I appreciate there may be errors with it somewhere on some configurations but lets face it, using it as an excuse to have a go at microsoft. Linux is just trying to copy windows, and yes people spend most of their time adjusting settings with it. |

Mike;
These are all public newsgroups. The fact some may be managed by MSDN does not change that fact. -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/ "Mike Hanson" wrote in message ... SP2 what a bunch of @#$!!!
i would say ott wording but valid compliant. i 2 had/have fw problems.
symantec fw/av running fine - no problam during or after install. and btw how may articles and documents (some quite long and detailed) does one need to read and fully understand before one applies a much needed SP2 ? but i now have lost access to some of the free WLAN cafes i visit (stopped assigning me the DNS - looks like I'm blocked but the connection is fine). however because WLAN work fine at work and at airports i'm not sure. i know from asking that the only thing that has changed is my install of sp2, but as it works most of the time, difficult to tell... SP2 what a bunch of @#$!!!
one PC I had the same problem, IE works intermittently out and Outlook is
have comm problems too , the my other PC seems to be fine, but it was a fresh install and not an upgrade. Beats me what is wrong with the first one, I told the stupid security thing to let me handle the firewall. Seems to be a network related issue. One day when I get frustrated enough I'll fix it. Probably a caching problem, either with IE or a gateway somewhere between you
and the live server... Set IE to check for new versions "every visit to the page" (internet options - temporary intenet files - settings)... Note this will not help if it is being cached elsewhere.... in which case you can add content expiration headers to your html... jd set your browser to always "George C. Yep I agree. SP2 really makes your computer slow. The firewall automatically
turns on every time you turn on your computer. |

Turn off firewall in network properties or in services if you don't want it. Defrag. Reboot at least 3-4 times over a weeks time. Boot prefetch takes that many reboots to kick in. The in built optimization runs every three days. It takes time for the prefetch folder to be rebuilt. Defrag again.
