Safe Mode
I am unable to get into safe mode. I am using Windows XP. I reboot the
machine and bring up safe mode by pressing F8 steady. The screen will come up on the display but I am unable to select anything. The screen is locked. This happened once before and I removed the mouse from the USB socket and added a plug to the mouse and up it came and worked fine. This time no go. Any help would be appreciated. Frank Redden |

Frank Redden Get another mouse from a friend or a neighbour and try the selection. Hoepfully the Serial port not damaged for the Mouse or try a USB mouse. HTH. nass ----- www.nasstec.co.uk |

Hi Frank,
Here’s an alternative method to using the F8 key. Go to Start - Run and type or paste MSCONFIG then press enter Click on the the Boot.ini tab Click the box for /SAFEBOOT to select it Minimal should be selected, if not select it Click Apply then OK Step by step instructions for starting Windows XP in Safe Mode: http://bertk.mvps.org/html/safemode.html Regards, Bert Kinney MS-MVP Shell/User http://bertk.mvps.org Member: http://dts-l.org Frank Redden wrote: I am unable to get into safe mode. As far as I know the mouse doesn't work with the Bootmenu screen and you
have to use the keyboard to get around. -- Harry Ohrn MS MVP [Shell\User] "Frank Redden" wrote in message ... I am unable to get into safe mode. I am using Windows XP. You're saying you simply swapped the mouse from a USB port, added the
adaptor for the PS2 port (round plug) or serial connector (similar to the vga port). Did you do a reboot of the system? Did you ensure that the serial ports are enabled in your BIOS?
