Actually, with the current purposefully persistent attempt at troll shaming
being somewhat successful, I think we've abated the trolls that still have
a shred of decency left, at least for a while.

My goal was very clearly approached and my tactics devilishly simple, such
that even the lowly trolls Frank Slootweg and Char Jackson can comprehend
what will happen each time they troll in a thread I care about.

In fact, you'll note, that the incessantly valueless trolls of the likes of
Wolf K and nospam have *subsided*, hence your prediction will likely not
come to fruition, although this explanation stimulate the trolls (since
they're here, after all, for their own amusement, and not to help others).

(Did you notice how both Char Jackson & Frank Slootweg, as I recall, were
clearly affronted that their "right to bully and troll" is being
confronted?)

Since the low-intelligence trolls like Nil & Diesel are here only for their
own amusement, they don't find much value in a tutorial, which is a rather
dry topic, filled with technicalities that they don't comprehend given
their exhibited lack of intelligence and inability to contribute
meaningfully to any technical discussion.

Just watch, for example, to see that I am correct that the trolls Frank
Slootweg, Char Jackson, Nil, Diesel, nospam, Sam Hill, Wolf K, can never
contribute even one iota of value to any technical tutorial I post.

The fewer responses to any thread, in general, the better, since the goal
is simply either (a) to ask a technical question which is hard to answer,
and/or (b) to provide knowledge so that others benefit.

Trolls can do neither - so - if they're shamed away, they will find some
other less proactive newsgroup to infest for their personal amusement.

Why not create yourself a GitHub.com (or similar) account and store your
tutorials as versioned files in a standard repository? They will then be:
-in a permanent place,
-searchable by others (much better than non-indexed Usenet archives),
-always up to date
-maintain a history
-easy, for those who want, to constructively help you hone your skills.

Public Git repositories are great places to build a community around a
common need.

This is good advice, where reasonable people will always differ on how to
provide value without giving up your privacy (e.g., I avoid logins like you
might avoid the bubonic plague).

But still, the purpose of this thread is to ask for advice from people who
actually know the answer to the question, which is, was, and will be:

Nice chit-chattin' witcha! If not bowling, how about lawn darts?

You forget there is a strategic and tactical design to all questions.

That I do that every time (once in a while I might forget) reminds you
chit-chatters that the thread has a question in the title and that's what
the thread is intended, stratetically, to answer.

It used to be "I only speak facts". That quickly went out the window.
Then it became "Nothing I do is by accident". Now that's dead, too.

What's next? "My strategy and tactics are simple"?

So naturally I looked here and sure enough, the arlen holder thing was

Do you think you could teach Arlen to bowl ?

And picnics. Don't forget about the picnics. That would be a great
excuse to come up into the Santa Cruz hills and see some of your signs.

Hi Rene Lamontagne,

Some day you'll actually act like an adult in a Usenet thread.

But, apparently, not today.

Notice that the inveterate troll Char Jackson, who hasn't a single iota of
technical value to contribute, incessantly plays silly semantic games.

Char Jackson plays his silly semantic games because he's affronted that his
"right to troll" along with his "right to bully" is being impinged upon.

Like I said before, once you're right a little more often, it'll stop

Hi Char Jackson,

First off, I'm almost always "right" since my belief system is based upon
facts. Facts are funny that way - I realize you don't subscribe to facts -
but I do, so, I doubt you'll even be able to find a single instance in your
entire life where I was factually wrong. It can happen, but it's rare.

Facts are funny that way.

*What you don't like is that I point out what it is that you do.*
You prove that point in almost every one of your bullying posts.

However, I left you an easy out.
(Yes, I left you that easy out on purpose.)

Remember always, I'm a mirror of your intent and tone.
a. Act like an adult - and I treat you like an adult.
b. Act like a worthless troll - and I treat you as such.

It's really very simple - you control the dynamic.

Since you seem to thrive on Usenet for your own amusement, and since you
rebel against your "right to bully others", I'm sure you'll appreciate that
I let you troll all you want in threads that I don't care about.

Do you see the perfect freedom I'm offering you, Char Jackson?
A. You can still use Usenet for your own personal chit-chat amusement.
B. Just avoid any thread that I care about - and you're free to troll.

Of course, this deal only words for those trolls who have a shred of
decency left, but I actually think there are two things about you, Char
Jackson, which are similar to the worth of the likes of nospam and Frank
Slootweg:

I. Deep inside, you three actually do have a shred of decency left,
II. Therefore, you actually *can* contribute value to a technical thread!

The value you *can* contribute is probably of a low level, e.g., offering
Notepad++ when the topic is VIM, but it's still value to some people who
may be ignorant of both (although anyone who uses Notepad++ isn't the same
type of person who uses VIM simply because of the difference in powwer and
complexity is immense).

It's like me telling you how to race and then you offer up a Honda Civic as
another "solution" to the problem set - but the attempt at adding value
*is* appreciated, so I won't say the facts I'm telling you here in that
thread, because I mirror your intent and tone more than your contributed
value.

In reality, you and the other three musketeers (you, nospam, and Frank
Slootweg) should probably stay out of any technical thread I author because
you three have proven time and again that none of you can ever possibly
offer me any information that I didn't know decades ago).

HINT: The trolls who love Notepad++ *always* throw it into *any* vi thread,
even if the topic is how to use VI regular expressions, for heaven's sake.
Your keyword-based responses are as predictable as the sun rising in the
morning for God's sake.

By keyword-based responses, I mean that you low-level trolls have
pre-recorded responses to everything, based not on the topic, but of
keywords about the topic (witness any thread about VPN, even if the thread
is how to spell VPN, always results in the lowly trolls saying you can't
trust that the NSA isn't running them).

It's so easy to predict the behavior of the three trolls (you, Frank, and
nospam) who still have a shred of decency, since none of you actually are
even the slightest bit technical (so all you *can* do, is troll).

It's much harder to predict what the three trolls who have no decency left,
such as Nil, Diesel, and GoodGuy are, since they don't care one whit about
their lack of value added.

While GoodGuy is on the corner of mental illness, it's even worse with the
clearly mentally ill such as Snit, Steve Carroll, and Petrucelli (likely
all one and the same) as, for them, the *only* solution is the killfile.

In summary, Char Jackson, if you act like an adult, I treat you as one.

Nonetheless, the question for this thread is, was, and shall be:
*What was your experience when you last tried to get Google to archive this ng?*

You're not proud of your signs? You don't want to show them off? Hard to

you couldn't stop talking about them. Get the next one scheduled

And the bowling! As I understand it, Mr. EMAK has volunteered that we
use the big round part of his upper body as it's clear that it doesn't
contain any valuable material.

BTW, his signs? His signs of what? Doesn't he have already enough
signs of most anything!?
