Default Windows has determined ......

Windows has determined that the best driver for this device is already
installed.
There may be better ones on Windows Update or manufacturer's site

What kind of gobbledegook is this? Are we being put to the test about
comparative and superlative adjectives? Or does Windows belong to Good
Guy's long list of mentally challenged things?

Windows could not find latest drivers for my 2004
Brother QL-500 ticket printer, saying the best
one was installed already. However a visit to
the Brother web page found a 2010 driver.

Compared with the totality of valid complaints and objections to windows
systems, this sounds rather lame.

If the dialog said "the latest driver" was installed,
that wouldn't be quite as specious a claim as "the best".

The dialog box should defer to the manufacturer, as being
the source of the driver. The manufacturer will be
fixing it, if it's broken.

A dialog box should not lie to a customer. Microsoft has
no way of knowing it's the best driver. Making a statement
that "it's the latest in the drivers that we have", would
not be far from the truth, as the drivers could well be
selected by date and not by any other criterion.

Microsoft isn't even using the Insider releases to test
the drivers. And the drivers are "tested" on the day of
release of the RTM version. That's how I ended up with
an Asus driver that doesn't belong on the computer (it's
a driver that is only to be installed if Asus Probe is
installed). That driver has never shown up on the Insider
edition, and showed up on 1803, out of the blue.
