i'm thinking of installing WinXP SP2 RC1. Is there
anything i have to download/install to prepare my system
for SP2?

No. But be aware that this is a Release Candidate (a test) of what is in
essence a major update of the operating system.

Jason:

You may want to wait, as RC2 should be released soon.

An RC is a beta version and may cause you problems (I am posting this via
SP2 RC1 and it has been trouble free).

IMO, best preparation for any SP beta version is to consider the computer
you run it on as expendable. If the beta causes major problems, be willing
to reformat the drive and start over.

Which is not retail but would be available to be downloaded from Windows
Update sometime early August??

Personally I would recommend you install some common sense before
putting any BETA software onto your home computer.
