Default Preregister Window 10 Icon on the Taskbar

Has anyone else noticed that the Window 10 Preregister Icon disappeared
from the Taskbar?

It was there last night, but it is not there this morning.

I have not made any updates this morning so there must have been a
timing loop in the program to deactivated it.

Mine is still there on my 8.1 Pro desktop, and my download has
completed as of this morning. The icon has lasted through my
using the Media Creation Tool to download the .ISO's for 10 Pro
and 10 Home.

Mine's still there on my Win7HP, but gone on my Win8.1Pro. I have a new
folder on my Win7HP PC that looks to be the upgrade setup and installation
files, but it's not there on my Win8.1Pro. Maybe once the upgrade downloads
itself on the Win8 machine, the icon will return, although the icon on the
Win7 machine gives the same info as always.

I just rebooted and during the shutdown and reboot (both) there was a "getting windows ready" typical update prompt but
no percentage progress. So it was so fast. And the icon is gone now.

If you still want 10 I get the impression you can just download the ISO now and simply put it in the dvd drive and run
setup.exe and let it upgrade from there.

Mine is still there, but there's a different message now:

"We're validating Windows 10 for your PC. We recommend that you
upgrade after you get your notification that Windows 10 is ready for
your specific PC.

"While upgrades have started for most PCs, we're continuously working
with our partners to ensure that even more PCs work well with
Windows 10"

Then there are two click boxes:

"OK, notify me when ready" "More information"

and if I click "more information", I get:

"We're working with our partners to make sure that Windows 10 is ready
for your particular PC. When you get your notification, it means that
you
can proceed with your upgrade"

Talk about tautology! And does that suggest that there *might* just be
some teething troubles that have only just come to light ..... ?

Well, I think I have downloaded all the data necessary. I have four PCs
and a laptop. Altogether last night I downloaded around 12 Gigabytes!
And I found all the data in C:\$Windows.~BT on each computer. Mostly it
was over 4GB but on one computer it was only 2.9GB

I updated my win7 laptop to windows 10 earlier today, and the whole
process took about 1hr or so.
So this evening I decided to update my windows 8.1 desktop, and after
something like 5 hours I got a message saying windows 10 could not run
on this machine, presumably because it complained that system folder
could not be updated.

Anyone else with windows 8.1 had this problem?

Yes, mine is also gone. Good riddance. I don't live on the "bleeding
edge" anymore.

It was there last night, but it is not there this morning.

I have not made any updates this morning so there must have been a
timing loop in the program to deactivated it.

Or, it may be a "back door update"...
