'This Guy' totally agrees; not only
did Paul help but stayed with me through the entire process with instructions to resolve the various problems I've been having and went a step further by providing excellent links and took his time to explain things so that I could understand better and didn't just pass over them. As far as I'm concerned Paul is tops! Again, many thanks Paul, Robert |

I do what I can, which isn't much. Paul You're too modest, You do much more than that and your technical knowledge is immense !@! I learn something new every time we 'talk' and the links are excellent. Lets hope there are no more problems,... So far, everything is as smooth as silk. I think re-setting those boleen files certainly helped. Anyway, all is good. I'll make new Mrimg files on 2-1 and then 3-1 and so on. Thanks again, Robert |

Not really a problem but I thought you might be
interested in an update: When I logged on both computers today; the 8200 had a Malicious software removal tool update (KB890830) and the 8500 had (24) updates, yet I had to look for them because the Action Center showed everything was normal and the strange part is that it says on the update screen that it checked for updates at 8:31 AM !? How weird is that? http://i65.tinypic.com/2q3yhk6.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/90det0.jpg Robert |

How weird is that? http://i65.tinypic.com/2q3yhk6.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/90det0.jpg Robert I think it can check for updates more than once a day. As far as the polling interval goes. Some changes to Windows Update on Windows 7 have broken the notification function of Windows Update. So you may not see a notification if something is available. Extended support for WinXP is finished, and receiving an MRST update is about all you could expect there. Things like MSRT and Windows Defender may last longer than the end of Extended support, but not by much. They should eventually stop. Regarding your other post about an NVidia update for the 8500, you had some problem in the past with one of the sub-packages in there refusing to install. So perhaps it's the same one again. If you're not playing 3D games, then those updates may not buy you a whole lot. Paul |

Your correct about the NVidia
installation problems in the past. For some reason it just doesn't seem to want to install but as you point out I probably don't even need it. I have updates set to install after I review them but I think I'll start checking from now on. Well you won't believe this but while pruning a little today I nicked a wire. I didn't think I cut anything but now my phone is dead...... sigh I'll go out tomorrow and check it but it looks like I'll have to get Verizon back out here. Robert |

Robert I suppose I could manage to do that here. My telephone wire passes through the branches of a cherry tree. And I have to trim around it each year, to prevent the wire and tree from slapping one another. So far, I haven't given the wire any serious insults :-) I use one of these, with the saw removed, and just the biting jaws to cut away the small stuff. You pull on the rope, to work the jaws remotely. These come in various qualities, ranging from "useless to own", to "actually working". Some, the cutting action is terrible. http://www.amestruetemper.com/upload...28530_L_01.JPG Those also come with fiberglass poles instead of metal, to reduce the odds of electrocution. My good tool uses metal telescoping poles, which is a bit risky. Paul |

I do have a smaller version but
my fault entirely,.. So made a appointment with Verizon for a service call. Things happen,...thankfully the computers are still running smooth as silk. Although just once I lost my Internet connection and was afraid the symptoms were returning but it snapped back on within a minute and there hasn't been a recurrence. Thanks, Robert |

O.T. Dell 8200 cannot power up
Here's an epilog to the computer
connection problem; I placed a service call to Verizon via online a week ago but the guy never showed and since it didn;t generate a repair ticket number I had no way to check up on it or to contact Verizon about it. I finally contacted Verizon from their wireless office and make a new repair order. The short story is that my line was corroded and grounded. The wire I nicked had nothing to do with any Verizon connection and is probably something leftover from an old cable connection or whatever but isn't connected to anything that I'm aware of. I just assumed it was the problem because my phone was dead but it was just coincidence. The guy said my Internet should be faster now as well. Not to say the 8500 didn't have issues also but having a corroded/grounded physical connection didn't help. Everything seems OK now. Robert |

I guess you finally ran into someone in the service department who takes their job seriously. Paul |
