Default Can't install program "Terrain Navigator" (MAPTECH)

I have used this computer (a DELL I9200 laptop) for about a year and have not
had any problems untill I tried to install this appilcation.
All other programs I have installed with no broblems. Also, all other cd's
and dvd's I have works with no problems so, I called MAPTECH and explained
the problem and they sent me a new install disk. But, You guessed it, I still
cant Install "Terrain Navigator" on my lap top. Both the old and new
installation disks work in my old desk top commputer. Both computers have XP
Pro w/sp2.
I called back to MAPTECH support and they work many hours with me (over 3 or
4 days) having me try many different things to include down loading a couple
fixer patches (ISFixer and xp-fx). MAPTECH said they have never run into a
problem like this and suggested I contact DELL. I did, and they ran a remote
diagnostic and said that my lap top passed all tests and do not have a hard
ware problem, but that they could not help me unless I purchased thier
software protection plan ($249.00).
I then called MICROSOFT support and they said that because of some agreement
that MICROSOFT has with DELL couldn't and/or wouldn't help me unless I agreed
to pay $$ (don't remember how much) per call/hour.
I have my lap top computer connected with my desk top computer over a wireless
LAN, so, I tried to install the software on my lap top over the LAN by
putting the install disk in my disk top computer's disk drive, but that
didn't work either!
The symtom I get from either drive is the same. The disk spins up and a box
pops up with a "Install Terain Navigator" Button and a "Uninstall Terrain
Navigator" Button. When Click on the install button the disk spins up and the
hour glass comes up in the middle of screen and blinks on and off a few times
and then goes away. This take maybe 15-20 seconds. I get no error codes or
any other indications as to what or why the application did not install. If I
click on the uninstall button it tells me that it could find "TERRAIN
NAVIGATOR";-)
Does anyone has any suggestions?? I"m about burned out on this one:-)

Thanks

Hi,
A very serious problem, i see. But no direct solutions available for it
either. Does your laptop meet the minimum system requirements for the
program? Please check the documentation of the software to make sure of that.
I cant think of anything else that might cause this kind of a thing to happen.

When you try to install, have you gone immediately after a failed install to
the System Event Viewer? (Start-Control Panel - Administrative Tools -
Event Viewer) Something there may give you a clue. A flashing hourglass
tells you that the "system" is doing something - but what?

Yes, and no events are recorded. I just now tried it again and got the
symptom and results.

Thanks,

Default Can't install program "Terrain Navigator" (MAPTECH)

Hmmm. About all I can suggest now is to copy the entire CD over to a working
folder on your hard drive and try to install from there. I had a program a
while back that was giving me a bunch of errors on install. I did that and
it installed just fine. Never did figure out why it didn't install from CD.

I'm assuming you have already tried turning off your anti-virus and such,
and that you have the latest version of the Installer.

That is one really odd problem you have.

I just tried your idea to copy the install disk to my hard drive and install
from there but got the same results.
Yes, MAPTECH sent me a new install disk and had me turn off all my security
software.

Thanks again, that was a good idea! I hope I can remember it for future
problems.

Default Can't install program "Terrain Navigator" (MAPTECH)

This may be a bit far out, but I am now wondering if the first failed install
left something in the registry that makes any subsequent install "think" the
software is already installed. Have you searched the registry for instances
of "MAPTEK" and deleted them? Perhaps MAPTEK support can give you a list of
registry keys to check - and delete.

That is about all I can think of.

Thanks, I will check the register and see if that is the problem, but I think
that is what the "ISFixer" and/or "xp-fix" was supposed to do. Don't remember
for sure. If I don't see anything in the register I am going to restore back
to what I received from DELL.

Thanks for your help!
