Default Windows update problem solved

An update (kb4056892) persistently would not install, so I
followed the following fix. Came back here to write something
and *BLINK* my computer spontaneously restarted like in the
old blue screen days. But lo and behold, it had something to
do with installing the update. Apparently a remaining part of
it required another restart, but it did finally show up as
installed and my system up to date.

Not sure of the following fix is overkill, or whether it
changes something permanently that should not be changed
permanently, but I will keep my eyes out for any obvious
problem.

Does this matter since Google destroyed the ability
to search USENET? I dunno.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/c...ls_to_install/

open CMD as administrator, an type one by one...

SC config wuauserv start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config bits start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config cryptsvc start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config trustedinstaller start= auto [Press Enter]

....and reboot, then tried WUpdate again This will fix your
issue, I was having exactly the same problem you have and
after trying differents things, it was the only solution that
worked.

That's why I and others love windows, you can't shut the thing down when
you want to and then may have to wait while the thing installs updates
when you turn it on.
Of course, Good Guy will respond with his usual insults, but that's ok,
we would expect nothing less from him.
