classic shell vs Retro UI

I have been using Classic Shell for a while in Win 8 and like it very much,
Now I see there is another similar utility out there called Retro UI. Has
anyone tried it yet? Is it as good or better than classic shell ?
I am not able to try it now as I cleaned out my trial Win 8 RTM. I realize I
am asking this a little too soon and may get better responses in a couple
weeks, Thanks in advance for any answers anyway.

Full review:

It's gone. There's a free trial period, I decided free is better and
just deleted it. I did spend a couple of minutes removing Classic
Shell, installing Retro UI and couldn't figure out any way to make it
work so... it's gone, Classic Shell is now installed and I plan on
formatting that partition soon, running Easy BCD to remove the dual
boot and that'll be the end of my Win8 experiment.

Why? Because I've had nothing but problems trying to install my
hardware that all installed in Win7 with no problems and I really don't
want to fool with it any more.

I may take a look at the final version...

It's gone. There's a free trial period, I decided free is better and

boot configuration because I wasn't sure about getting rid of the dual
boot after I removed Win8. Can you run that by me?

Thanks. Sounds simple enough even for me. I will probably stick with the
include bcdedit utility. I try not to install anything I don't have to.

I wonder. . . I have Win8 installed on a spare drive, and Win7 on the only
drive in my laptop. It has space for a second drive (I used slot that to
clone my primary shortly after purchasing it). If I installed EasyBCD on the
WIn7 drive, then put the Win8 drive in and booted to the primary Win7 drive,
do you think I could add the Win8 drive as a boot option? I've used EasyBCD
before, but never on something like this. Might be worth a try (after I
image my primary).

I've been trying out another start menu approach, this one runs
Windows 7 explorer.exe in Win8. So far it looks pretty good.
You can easily switch between Win7 and Win8 explorers.

explorer.exe in Win8. So far it looks pretty good.

If I do much more to it, it'll just be another instance of Win7, so why
bother? I've seen a few posts about how much faster Win8 boots than Win7,
but I have to disagree. I have Win7 HP 64-bit on one drive, and Win8 Pro
64-bit on another identical drive in my laptop, and I choose what I want to
run from the boot menu (no dual boot). Booting to the Win7 is noticeably
faster than booting to Win8, even before doing and customization. There may
be better memory usage in Win8 than Win7 (I read that somewhere), but I have
never run out of memory on either of my Win7 64-bit or 32-bit machines, so
that's not a plus for me.

I figured, what the heck, for $15 I'll give Win8 a try. Whether or not I'll
keep it, I haven't decided yet.

The author of that Start menu fix has now written a new method without using Win7 files.
I think it's even better, you can switch between desktop and Metro via the mouse-wheel!
It's at the beta stage and free at the moment but he will be charging a small fee as it matures.

downloaded it. My main desire was to be able to cut and paste the
entries in the menu. I can copy, but when I highlite an menu item where
I want to copy the item I do not get a paste option.

Dos this (or Cut & Paste) work in this application?

I don't really know what you mean by "highlite an menu item where I want
to copy the item", so I'll tell you what I do.

I click in an empty part of the file pane of the directory where I wish
to copy or move the object, then I choose Paste.

By "choose Paste", I mean either I press Ctrl-V or I right click in that
area and select Paste from the context menu.
