Default Windows Welcome Screen: Locked & Logged On. How to Skip

I'm the only user of my laptop. No kids at home and hubby is computer
challenged
When I turn on my Win 7 laptop and before I can get into Windows, there is a
blue screen, icon in the middle and my name below it. Sometimes below my
name it will say "locked" and "switch user" is below that. All I have to do
is click on the icon and I'm in Windows. Sometimes instead of "locked", it
says Monica "logged on". Again, I just click on the icon to enter Windows.
I didn't create any password (and I'm not asked for one) and there are no
other accounts on this computer. Can I bypass this screen so the computer
can just go straight into Windows without any input from me? The answer has
GOT to be staring me in the face but I'm not finding it.
Thanks,
Monica

You didn't turn OFF your laptop. You probably just closed the lid and that put it into the sleep
mode. Pressing the ON button wakes the computer up and resumes where you left off.
Change the Power settings in the Control Panel to turn off the laptop when you close the lid.

The sevenforums site is filled with recipes. I don't know
if this'll do exactly what you want, but it's close.

Do NOT use Windows 7 with only ONE user account. In Windows 7, the built-in
Administrator account is disabled by default and although it is possible to
enable it, that process may be beyond what you feel comfortable with.
WHEN, and not IF,you have problems accessing your ONE user account, you
will have tremendous difficulty if you only have ONE use account.

You need to forget anything to do with XP, and create a User Account with
Administrator privileges, (call it Admin or similar) and give it a
password. Keep this account for emergency access and for elevation purposes
only. Then change your User account to a Standard User account.(There is
absolutely no need to run as an administrator on a daily basis in Windows 7
- Windows 7 has the "right-click-run as administrator" function for when
you need admin privileges). You will be much safer and better protected
doing this.

Isn't this a typical shallow and condescending Microsoft response.

He didn't answer the question you asked, and then implied you were to
stupid to run you own laptop without creating user accounts. God I hate
Microsoft.

If she does as you suggest, is there any way she can do what she wishes
(bypass the login screen) for normal use, though?

Looks good! Do you know if it bypasses that screen on resume from sleep
etc., as well as at initial logon? (I don't have a 7 PC to try it on
here.)

READ MY REPLY.
There are myriad posts in the MS Answers forums where users have only ONE
user account on their computer and get locked out, either by forgetting
passwords, or other circumstances.
Nowhere in my reply did I imply that the user could run a computer without
setting up a user account. My concern is that the OP only has ONE user
account on the computer hence my reply in order to prevent heartache in the
future.
And I am nothing to do with MS per se - I am just an ordinary person whose
contributions to the MS forums in terms of answering questions has been
recognised .

I suggest you engage brain before hitting keyboard.

You can certainly do so but it's not recommended if anyone COULD have
casual physical access to your computer and you have sensitive data that
you might not want them to see.

Click Start, type control userpasswords2 in the Run box & click OK.
- From the User Accounts window, uncheck the "users must enter a user name
& password to use this computer" box & click OK.

- Enter & confirm the password for the applicable user account & click OK.

There certainly is, although it's not really recommended, especially if
other people could have casual physical access to the computer and from
whom the OP might want to keep sensitive data.

What about encrypting the data?

Maybe your sig file implies a certain amount of brainwashing has

And get into the scenario of not backing up keys etc etc?

Unk, I rarely turn the laptop "off". I'll either just shut the lid or put
it in hibernate so I can resume where I left off (mostly in case I have FF
windows open.
