transferring files from one computer to another

I have established a new connection using direct cable
connection PC to PC file transfer cable, Parallel. Now I
need to know how to start the process or what else needs
to be configured. The guest system is a novell network,
do I also need to add anything to that network control
panel, and then what do I do now? I know there must be a
step by step process somewhere but I have been unable to
find it in the help files or other documentation, and I
know this ability is within XP without buying other
