Default Taskbar icons and closing applications

Hi,
I have Windows XP-Home edition and I am wondering if it
is possible to close programs trough out the task bar
such as in W95, W98, and W2K. The only thing that happens
once I click on a task icon is changing the color or
blinking. So far I did not see any difference in the
behaviour between the right and the left mouse button.
Any tip is highly appreciated.

Default Taskbar icons and closing applications

NoTrayContextMenu
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\Explorer

Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 0 | 1 0

Description
Hides the menus that appear when you right-click the taskbar or right-click items on the taskbar.

This entry stores the setting of the Disable context menu for taskbar Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the Disable context menu for taskbar policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

Value Meaning
0 (or not in registry) The policy is disabled or not configured. Context-sensitive menus appear when you right-click the taskbar or items on the taskbar.
1 The policy is enabled. Context-sensitive menus are hidden.

This entry does not prevent users from using other methods to issue the commands that appear on these menus.

Change method
To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Disable context menu for taskbar policy (User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Start Menu & Taskbar).

Tip

For detailed information about particular Group Policy settings, see the Group Policy Reference (Gp.chm) on the Windows 2000 Resource Kit companion CD.

For general information about Group Policy, see Group Policy in Windows 2000 Help.

To see a table associating policies with their corresponding registry entries, see the Group Policy Reference Table.
