Editing PDF images.
I download old books from various sites.
these are mostly in PDF format. Many images in these PDFs are of poor quality and I want to edit them in PShop. I open the image page in Acrobat. This shows the image to be edited. In Acrobat I click on the vertical thin strip at the left edge of the screen select "content". I get a long vertical list of all the pages in the book, and the page containing the image is expanded to show the image icon which can then be opened in PShop, edited and saved. My question is: Why doesn't the page number with the image correspond to the page number at the top of the Acrobat screen? |

Page number at the top of the screen is that of the sheet of paper carrying the image. If the original document (as many do) does not start numbering pages until several header pages have gone through then the printed page number will be less than PDF page number. -- Regards, Eric Stevens |

If you look at the book is sheet of paper in the book has been scanned, this includes the book cover, fly leafs, and such. Because the page number with the image is the page number as numbered in the book, and the PDF page is the page in the file. Because of this, the user has to be careful when printing, as one could easily print the wrong pages!!!!!!!!!! I knew this in my college days a few years ago. We had to pay 5p per page to use laser printer at college so printing wrong pages was not an option as finance was very tight!!!!!!!! In the properties of many PDF books Page Extraction not allowed. While that might work there is another little thing that may get in the way. In some old books, pictures were put in the book as unnumbered plates. This was done so a better printing process could be used for pictures than the one used to print text. So to remove the unnumbered pages to make the page number match the PDF page number, may mean removing pictures. In my experience the Title and Copyright pages are not numbered. There is another problem that is common in older books, In some multi volume books, the page numbering continues through out all of the volumes. ie Volume 1 in PDF 1 will be pages 1- 100; volume 2 in PDF 2, 101- 200, etc Point being if you are using the book for research, to do what you propose will take a lot more time that you will be spending in the book digging out the information. I just checked my computer and I have nearly 100 PDF books. It is easier to added a little to the PDF page, than it is to restructure the book so the pages of the file and book match. -- 2018: The year we learn to play the great game of Euchre |

The first few pages are numbered i, ii, iii, iv, etc etc. How are you going to arrange them. To print them selectively, you have to enter something like: i - iv You can't enter 1 - 4 because that will print the wrong pages. You could remove those pages but then your book becomes useless without the "Contents" pages and details about links to download files and source code (assuming we are dealing with Computer books). -- With over 950 million devices now running Windows 10, customer satisfaction is higher than any previous version of windows. |
