When I start up my pc, the screen goes blank and the PC
screaches a high pitched beeping noise until I press any
key on the keyboard which stops it. Sometime also whn
using the pc, the icon I try to select is not selceted,
the cursor goes to the right all the time. I am using
Windows XP..anyideas?? PC World want 170 quid to come
out and fix it, they say its a motherboard error??

I don't know if this will help you, but I have a home-built computer that
did the same thing. On boot up, it screeched a high pitched beeping noise,
sometimes which could be solved by hitting a key on the keyboard. I switched
keyboards from a PS/2 to a USB and everything worked fine. I suspect the
PS/2 port was bad...or going bad....Can you get your hands on a USB
keyboard?
