Default DVD Drive problem

Hi can anyone help me with a DVD Drive problem. I have purchased DVD+RW
disks but when I put them in the E Drive and start to burn it keeps telling
me there is no disk in the drive. I would appreciate any assistance with
this problem. I am running Windows XP profession and my PC is brand new.
Thanks

I not sure because I don't use RW disks but I seem to remember something
about
some kind of formatting of the disk.

What burning program are you using? WindowsXP does not have any built in
burning support for DVD's only CD's.

I have two burning programs - Cute CD DVD Burner and \Sonic Shared\Sonic
Central\Main\Mediahub.exe ( which came with the PC)

Have you ever been able to burn a DVD with it? What about CD's? Have you
tried a different brand od media?

What I mean is let's say the DVDRW's you bought were say Fugi's, have you
tried Ritek's. Some burners don't match well with some brands but do well
with another brand. Also have you tried burning to a DVD+R or a DVD-R. You
need to experiment a little to know wheather or not you've got a problem
with the burner's laser. What is the exact model of the burner? You can find
that in the device manager.

Are you sure the drive can burn DVDs? There are combo drives that can burn
CDs but can only read DVD's. Your problem sounds like you have one of those
drives. They are common on low end, inexpensive computers.

Hi Bobby

Well you hit the nail on the head. I went back to the manufacturer and they
have advised me that I can burn CDs but not DVDs. Very annoying when I
thought that I had purchased a PC with a DVD burner. Thanks to you and all
the other people who provided me with advice I very much appreciated it.

Cheers Joy
