Default Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 6000

I am running XP Media Center 2005. I just purchased the Microsoft Wireless
Notebook Laser Mouse 6000 and installed the related software, IntelliPoint
5.5. When the wireless mouse reciever is plugged into the USB port my
screensaver won't work. The screensaver will work with the software
installed. There's only a problem when I plug in the wireless receiver. Any
suggestions as to how to make this mouse work with my system?

I put the mouse on its back and it still won't work. I also tried placing it
on different types of surfaces but that didn't work either. Any other
suggestions, or do you think I should return the mouse?

Yes, it will let me start the screen saver manually, in preview mode (with
the wireless receiver plugged in to the usb port).

I also tried taking the battery out of the mouse with the wireless receiver
plugged into the USB port and the screensaver wouldn't come on then either.
The screensaver will work with a regular mouse plugged into it (a usb mouse
with a cord).

does your mouse software have something like a "disable screensaver" option
or something

The screen saver does not work when you use a Wireless Optical Desktop
mouse on a Windows XP SP2-based computer
