If you thought I was a troll, you wouldn't be responding, craphead. I'm not responding to the troll, just the HoopleHead. |

You can't even think straight, hooplebrain. It was you who was trying to pretend I was a troll. And now you continue to reply showing just how dumb you are and who the real "hooplehead" is. |

... "Richard Pounder" wrote in message ... Actually, none of us really caught it. JohnD66 is simply a troll. And we've been feeding him. I asked a simple question with an error in it, and got a trollish answer. I can see how it could be interpreted that way. Anyway, you have two browsers that both don't do what you have come to expect regarding blocking of content. I suppose it could be misleading you, bringing you to the conclusion that *one* thing (the OS) would more likely be the problem than *two* things (both browsers) would be - Occam's Razor strikes again. If you can't find enough configurability within the browsers' settings, use a proxy filter - I used to use "Proxomitron" but I have no idea if it is still available, but there are sure to be others out there. |

Thanks for the reply, but I was in a hurry and distracted and made a dumb error in substituting win for ie, in the op. I know blocking banners and popups is AV / IE and that the os is only the firewall - I just dashed it off mistakenly. Kaspersky AV has a good banner ad blocker, but it also somewhat frequently runs the CPU at 100 pct, so I tried Symantec AV, which doesn't hog up the cpu anywhere near as much (maybe becasue it isn't giving as much protection?), but Sym AV doesn't have a banner ad blocker, so I was hoping there might be soemthing built in on ie would help. |

in microsoft.public.windowsxp.general: http://www.proxomitron.info/45/help/Intro.html I used to use Proxomitron, in fact, it's still installed on my computer, but disabled. It did work well, but was kind of difficult to get set up, as I recall. It became redundant a few years ago when I started using Firefox, so I turned it off and have hardly thought of it since. |

Actually, the function of IE is to *allow* banners and pop-ups - but I didn;t want to irritate him. ) As for AV - it's not really an AV function either, but a 'feature sprawl' insinuation of AV and they probably do it by proxy filtering too. |
