Modem activates on boot up
I have a dial-up modem, Conexant SoftV92 Data Fax Modem running on COM3.
Windows XP SP3 fully updated/patched. Under modem properties I have the "Append to log" setting ticked as I want to see log entries when I instigate a dial-up session manually. However, I notice that the log contains entries even when I am not using the modem, almost as if it's performing device checks as soon as I boot up my PC. In the past I've managed to prevent this, but I've forgotten what I did. Can anyone offer suggestions please? --- The latest log entries follow (when I haven't used dial-up)… 02-24-2011 20:16:32.031 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\tapisrv.dll, Version 5.1.2600 02-24-2011 20:16:32.046 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\unimdm.tsp, Version 5.1.2600 02-24-2011 20:16:32.046 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\unimdmat.dll, Version 5.1.2600 02-24-2011 20:16:32.046 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\uniplat.dll, Version 5.1.2600 02-24-2011 20:16:32.062 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\modem.sys, Version 5.1.2600 02-24-2011 20:16:32.062 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\modemui.dll, Version 5.1.2600 02-24-2011 20:16:32.062 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\mdminst.dll, Version 5.1.2600 02-24-2011 20:16:32.062 - Modem type: SoftV92 Data Fax Modem 02-24-2011 20:16:32.062 - Modem inf path: oem11.inf 02-24-2011 20:16:32.062 - Modem inf section: ModemCH 02-24-2011 20:16:32.062 - Matching hardware ID: pci\ven_14f1&dev_2f00 02-24-2011 20:16:32.421 - Opening Modem 02-24-2011 20:16:32.421 - 57600,8,N,1, ctsfl=1, rtsctl=2 02-24-2011 20:16:32.421 - Initializing modem. 02-24-2011 20:16:32.421 - DSR is low while initializing the modem. Modem activates on boot up
Update... It was the XP Fax service that was running automatically on startup. Disabled it and made in manual start and now the modem log no longer records these unwanted log entries. |
