Latest Windows Live Messenger Freezes Whole Computer

Hi,

I recently updated the latest Windows Live Messenger and encountered a
problem. When I pressed the "Sign In" button, the messenger freezes and
thus freezes my whole laptop. The whole laptop becomes really slow and
takes about 20 - 25 minutes just to open task manager.

I've tried reinstalling after removing the program with all the
possible registery entries and folders that I could find. Still, no
luck.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium. Also, I scanned for virus and
my computer is totally clean.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
