I am having trouble with Win7 managing memory. It uses less than 2GB of the
4GB I have--and the system knows it has that much--so that the CPU just thrashes, apparently trying to run in insufficient memory. Under Vista, memory would normally run around 3GB nearly all the time and the CPU would effortlessly do its stuff. Anyone else have any memory issues? John |

Hi, John.
I assume you are running 32-bit Win7, but you should always tell us specifically what you are using when you post a question, especially about a memory issue like this. How have you determined how much memory is being used? Because some of the 4 GB memory addresses must be reserved for hardware and other overhead, 32-bit Windows cannot use the full 4 GB (even if 8 GB is installed); typically, about 3.1 GB is available - as you apparently already know. For us to even guess what might be using more of your computer's address space, we would need to know more about your computer's hardware configuration - and maybe about device drivers and other features of your specific machine. I am using 64-bit.
There is another issue that I'm working on. The computer freezes at the MB splash screen. The fix is to clear the RTC, then it works fine until you do a shutdown. I am now thinking the problem we have under discussion is a BIOS problem. I hit a dead end with Asus who tells me as of now, they don't expect software upgrades for Windows 7. So, it's going back to TigerDirect. John "CenturyTel" wrote in message et... I am having trouble with Win7 managing memory.
