Default Windows Messenger Login problems

Greetings MD,

Have you installed DirectX 9? If so, the Windows XP firewall, DirectX 9, Messenger and the
firewall have issues working together, which can display the behavior you're seeing. You may
need to turn the firewall off totally, or if you want to continue using it, turn off the
firewall, load Messenger and then turn the firewall back on.

To turn it off (and on), click Start, then click the Control Panel. If you're in category
view click Network and Internet connections then click Network Connections. Right click the
network or dialup connection, then click Properties. Click the Advanced Tab, and you will
see the option to turn off/on the Internet Connection Firewall.

To remove DirectX 9, just use System Restore, click Start, then Help & Support, then "Undo
changes to my computer using System Restore" and restore back to before DirectX 9 was
installed.

If System Restore fails, you can also use this uninstaller:
http://www.3dcenter.org/downloads/di...ninstaller.php to uninstall DirectX 9.

Hello,

I have searched through the other posting but nothing seems to standout as
relevant to me. (although I see that other people seem to have a lot of
similar problems with Windows Messenger).

I have Windows Messenger set to NOT start when I start Windows. However,
when I do try to run it, it takes several minutes to open. msmsgs.exe
appears in the taskmanager - processes but it takes a while for the program
to open. This was causing a problem when I tried to open Outlook Express but
I have used that registry fix by Jonathon Kay (Thankyou Jonathon!) to
disassociate Windows Messenger from Outlook The reason why I set messenger
to NOT start when Windows starts is that it always logged on when an
internet connection was present...is there a way to stop this?

Windows Messenger also periodically freezes. This is rather annoying and is
why I still prefer Yahoo Messenger (amongst other functional reasons).

Any helpfull comments on this would be greatly appreciated.

MD
