That's true, Paul.

Would it help if I put 'OT' at the beginning of a thread?

Each of the groups have a charter and a main topic.

Using an "OT" tag, is not a license to sporge, crap
flood, insert noise, or otherwise make a mess of the
group. The definition of "OT" is "slightly off topic
but still within the same area as the main charter
topic of discussion". That's "slightly" off topic,
not "way off" topic. If you make everyone in the
group angry enough to wring your neck, that's
"way off topic".

For example, if my copy of Firefox is not working
in Windows 7, people might quite rightly complain
that I should take it to the Mozilla support forum.
If I put "[OT] Recent Win7 update broke my Firefox",
then the topic discussed is Firefox, but the
topic isn't that far removed from the OS. There
might be a root cause in the OS, the subject may have
some overlap between the two groups or forums.

If a person were to drop a hundred different
chocolate chip cookie recipes into the group,
that's not [OT], that's a crap flood.

You can find all sorts of articles on Wiki,
giving descriptive terms for ways to
disrupt USENET. We don't need this kind
of disruption.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sporge

If you keep it up, you will be nominated
for an alt.usenet.kook monthly award. And
there is some tough competition, such as the
insane university professor (who eventually
disappeared from USENET - we assume when this
happens, that the person got treatment or
there was an intervention - I think his
students noticed... :-) ) Genuine kooks
receive rewards.

Paul

That's most interesting. Thanks. :-)

Tell me, Paul, why is THIS group not available on the Google Groups?

There, there is SOME moderation. Here, there is none!

Sadly, I'm not a kook at all! ;-)

Just a researcher!

There is a reason for it.

The alt.* hierarchy does not have working
control messages. Creating groups takes manual
intervention from the server administrator.
Control messages were turned off, after people
started creating vanity groups. That's
where alt.swedish.chef.bork.bork.bork came
from. At one time, there might have been a
100,000 garbage groups created. So that
stuff was all turned off.

At Google, there are no humans... Thus,
no way to have a group added. If a comp.* group
is added, the signed control message can be received
and acted upon automatically. The control message
presumably comes from some staff member at the Big-8.

But alt.* receives no such service. It's the Ghetto.
And as a Ghetto, there is no archiving of newly created
groups at Google. Undoubtedly at some level, there
is a piece of hardware that does have all the information
necessary stored on it. But the software is missing,
to make it accessible.

Yes, there is. You're a well-known net kook and stalker. Your fake
cutesy nicey-nice facade is completely ineffective at disguising your
obvious and true malignancy. You earn every rudeness you get.

You'll note that '...winston' is NOT one of the accredited
supporters.

No, I won't. I don't care.

Maybe you like to ask him why that might be?

Why would I do that? It's unimportant and I really don't give a flying
****.

As you've noticed, he refuses to communicate with me.

He recognizes you as the toxic cancer you are.

Thank you for your contribution, dickhead! :-)
