On an XP Pro system, I enabled fax receiving in the fax service. I
routed incoming faxes to a remote printer. The printer is shared from an XP Home system. When a fax is successfully received, the fax is not printed. The fax remains in the fax service queue as a routing task, and two messages appear in the application event log: Event Type: Error Event Source: Microsoft Fax Event Category: Inbound Event ID: 32003 Date: 3/15/2011 Time: 3:20:13 PM User: N/A Computer: EDWARD2 Description: Unable to print C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data \Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\Queue\1CBE34E3E1A5B.tif to \\EDWARD \Printer. There is a problem with the connection to printer \\EDWARD \Printer. Check the connection to the printer and resolve any connection problems. The following error occurred: The data area passed to a system call is too small.. This error code indicates the cause of the error. Event Type: Error Event Source: Microsoft Fax Event Category: Inbound Event ID: 32089 Date: 3/15/2011 Time: 3:20:13 PM User: N/A Computer: EDWARD2 Description: The Fax Service failed to execute a specific routing method. The service will retry to route the fax according to the Retries configuration. If, when retrying, the service fails to route the fax, verify correct routing method configuration. Job ID: 0x0401cbe34e3e1a5b. Received on Device: 'Hayes Accura 56K Ext Fax Modem 4703US' Sent from: '8008766960' Received file name: 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\Queue\1CBE34E3E1A5B.tif'. Routing extension name: 'Microsoft Routing Extension' Routing method name: 'Print' I can print the fax manually by right clicking the fax and choosing Print. Because I can print manually, and because the fax service runs Local System not as myself, I suspect this is a matter of how the printer is shared. But the printer sharing options on the XP Home system are very limited: shared or not shared. Anybody know the solution? Cheers, MetaEd |
