Strange Windows Behavior
First off: Windows 2004 19041.450 (and what's with the 2004?)
Firefox 79.0 I have just recently noticed that when I open a new window, it appears behind everything else on the screen, not in front. This always happens when I open a Private Window, but not always with a regular window. Is this expected behavior, or do I have something weird going on on my system? |

You aren't talking about a new tab? Does it happen with other windows besides Firefox Windows? If it's just Firefox, then it's probably a problem with Firefox. Using Windows 1903, I just right-clicked the Firefox (79.0 (64-bit)) Taskbar icon Open new window, it came up in front of everything else. I would try restoring an earlier copy of Windows (disconnected from the Internet, disabling updates for a time), update Firefox, and see what happens. What's with the 2004? It's a number that comes after 1903. |

This always happens when I open a Private Window, but not always with a regular window. Is this expected behavior, or do I have something weird going on on my system? Just for Firefox, or also for opening multiple windows for other programs? If just for Firefox, go into its options, and for each extension make sure it is disabled for use in inprivate mode. Reload Firefox and retest. If that doesn't help, disable all extensions you installed into Firefox, and retest. If that doesn't help, create a new clean profile in Firefox (settings -. Help - Troubleshooting - Refresh), and retest. If that doesn't help, see if a clean boot (aka safe mode) of Windows 10 eliminates the interference which could be caused by a startup program. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...oot-in-windows Did you install the 2004 feature update because it showed up as available for your computer under Settings - Update & Security? Or did you force an update by downloading the update from Microsoft's catalog site, and installing yourself? There are still problems with 2004; see: https://wccftech.com/and-it-begins-a...n-issues-list/ (updated 8/5/2020) Some known issues are still in "investigating" status, which means they have not yet been resolved. Some "resolved" issues got fixed after applying the 2004 update, and some fixes are still in review status, so not yet available. Feature updates are not forced. WU will notify you that one is available, but not install it unless you choose. Since future updates may be dependent on past update installations, they could stay pending until you install the prior dependent updates. That's okay by me. Means I might not have to apply updates until whenever I decide to install the 2004 update (unless they also apply to the 1909 version I currently have installed). Until I see much better resolution coverage on the 2004 feature update, I'm not installing it. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...0-version-2004 After reading that, there's nothing that I need in the 2004 update, some don't apply until I build my next computer with the required hardware or replace some hardware, like the wifi cable modem to support wifi v6 and wpa3, some features only apply to the Pro and Enterprise editions of Windows 10 and not to my Home edition, and some features I've disabled (e.g., Cortana, Delivery Optimization), so I don't care about improvements to them. There's no bang-for-the-buck for me to move to the 2004 version, but there still possible gotchas. |

I mean "a number that comes before 2004", obviously.

It's a number that comes after 1903. Even if that's a typo and you meant "after 2003," it's not correct with respect to version 2004 of Windows 10. It's the one that comes after 1909. -- Ken |
