It can do without all kinds of motor vehicles too.

Especially sport cars! We still need tools to transport food, water
clothes and fuel... those basic human rights stuffs.

No, we can go back without losing a dime. You should notice that all
these mobile phones are only being used for mobile entertainment.

Don't be addicted to mobile gadgets. I think we really don't need that
many mobile phones which are basically toys now. We could reduce the
number without affecting economy and health.

Why do we need so many battery-powered toys? For GLOBAL pollution? Oh
well...

I am not those super duper scientists. And I don't manage nor control
those toy factories.

You can buy toy walkie talkies with two way video link.

I imagine large numbers of people have been *saved* by mobile phones.
Without a portable communication device they would have died after getting
into serious trouble.

Old-fashion fixed line phones can still be useful.

What? Even half-way up a mountain? A landline is of no use if you're stuck
on a precipice with a broken leg...

How about a more intelligent and smart mobile network based NOT on
ground stations but something like the Bit-Torrent protocol....

Excellent response! The wire can indeed be a safety measure.

You can rn whatever you want over the top of the radio and backhaul
system.

But if the mobile network cannot locate your device and figure out
which cell you are in, then there isnt going to much traffic
arriving...

It should, because the outgoing EM radiation from the phone itself is
stronger than the incoming EM radiation from that antenna. Fact is, I'm
more at risk from background (nuclear) radiation here. We sit on
"basement rock", so our background radiation is about twice the average.
By contrast, we used to live on the Prairies, where background radiation
is about half the average.

There's no danger to anyone's health. The observation that there were
concentration of some cancers near some power pylons (for example)
proves that power pylons are not implicated in the cause9s). If there wy
were, there would be fairly uniform distribution of cancer cases all
along the line. That is, the number of cancers would be proportional to
the local population within, say, a 500m radius of each pylon. That's
never been observed. The fact that you don't know this indicates that
you need a course in statistics and probability.

And you have the reason, the motive and the intention to just don't
care about others' health.

That assumption is an insult.

No. Because you possibly don't have the power to save everyone' health.
It's normal to just save yourself first. Calm down... calm down!

Not necessarily. There are a lot of variables and no one takes the
time to try to eliminate them.

For instance, we have one researcher that claims he's seen T cells
affected by strong AC magnetic fields. Now that may make the T cells
less effective at preventing cancers. Then to get cancer you still
need either a genetic pre-disposition, and/or stressor that is known
to cause cancer. The radiation may not cause cancer but may still
interfere with one's ability to fight it naturally.

Then too there are other things that aren't researched well enough.
What if, for instance, the presence of ferrous metal structural
elements or nearby metal (fencing etc) can result in "hot spots" and a
person that spends lots of time in a hot spot can have an increased
risk.

I'm not making a case for tin foil hats or saying that some forms of
electromagnetic radiation (not just cell phones) are harmful - just
that we don't approach it with the idea of finding out if there are
casual links, but we have a hellovalot politics and money involved
that probably color how any "research" into the issue is carried out.

The FCC tests for EM radiation? How much heating nearby antennas can
cause in a gelatin sample. Making the world safe from melted jell-o,
isn't the same as understanding what happens on a cellular level in an
animal or plant.
