Default trying to hook up computer to tv!!

Hi there,
Some one told me that if you have a s-video hookup on
your computer and on your tv that you could hook up your
computer to your tv. Now im not sure what procedure to
use to do that. Is what my friend told me true or can you
really? And if you can hook it up then what extent of
computer use can you use on your tv.
Any and all advice and help would be greatly
apprchiated. Thank you for your time and patience on this
matter.
Have good day and thanks again.
Carl

Carl,
Yes, it's true! However, you'll need a video card that has "TV Out".
Hauppage makes them, ATI makes them, nVidia makes them. A trip to your local
hardware shop should net you one. Some of them don't support S-Video, the
only support RCA plugs. The better ones do support S-Video (and I believe
the top of the line cards support component as well). If you go with S-Vid,
be careful, you don't want to run the S-Video cable more than 10 feet or so.
The picture degrades tremendously, although they do have signal boosters for
such situations. As to the extent you can use your television with your
computer...in effect, your television becomes your computer monitor. So
whatever you can do with your monitor, you can do with your television.
Beware, as the picture quality on the television does not rival the picture
quality on the monitor most of the time. However, since most TVs are bigger
than monitors, you can sit farther away, which is a great advantage. HTH.
