Default HP OfficeJet V40

Could you post the link to that information about USB
ports? That might be my problem in trying to get my d145 to
work properly. HP tech support has given up. All they seem
to know how to do is to keep reinstalling with the hope
that by chance it might eventually work.

Thanks, Jim

Debra,

RPC stands for Remote Procedure Call.

I recently helped a friend get his HP Officejet D145
working. In the process I found that his retailer had
sold him a computer with Windows XP pre-installed and the
Officejet with out-of-date drivers. They were for Windows
98 and would not work with the computer. Also the Intel
USB chipsets on the motherboard of the computer were
listed on the HP website as 'having some problems' and
advised driver upgrades, which I was able to do.

I expect your new computer came with Windows XP and you
will need new drivers. You can buy these on CD from HP or
download them but they are 59MB in size. I downloaded
them over a dial-up connection and it took several hours.
The printer was under warranty but HP refused to give us
the driver upgrade free as the software warranty was only
3 months and had expired. In the circumstances I thought
they were pretty miserly - very bad PR!

I have in front of me as I write 12 A4 pages of notes
from the HP website offering advice on resolving certain
problems with USB connected All-in-Ones. I trawled
through 32 pages of stuff to identify my friend's
problem. These machines are pretty complex and, judged by
the copious notes on the support site, cause a lot of
headaches.

The good news is that it was worth it in the end and the
All-in-One is a joy to use.

Good luck to you.

Alistair.

I was hoping to somebody might be able to help me
deceipher a problem I'm having. I just tried adding my
OfficeJet V40 and I've encountered a problem. The "Found
New Hardware Wizard" is telling me that an error occured
during installtion. The RPC server in unavailable. What
does this mean? My printer was working with my old
computer, {I bought a new one last Saturday} so I really
don't think it's the unit itself. I called HP Tech

Support
& was told that for a $25 fee they might or might not be
able to help me! I was hoping someone out the in cyber-
land might know what these intials stand for before I
contribute anymore to HP!!

Thanks,
Debra
